Guest Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Hi all, Passed my mod couple few months back, and since that day have been commuting on my ninja zx6r 1998, love the bike it's lavely but I can't shake the nerves when wet Riding. Had a rear wheel wobble when accelerating to fast so have now learnt to feed the throttle smoother and eliminated that but I need to tackle cornering in the wet, I mean what's my limits? Any wet Riding advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks allDan. Quote
Mr Fro Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 If you're doing the same route often just slowly pick up the pace over time, there's no point trying to rush it. nice and smooth on the throttle and brakes and try to keep you arms and shoulders nice and relaxed. Quote
Guest Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Thanks man, yeah I had a bad habit of tensing my arms and shoulders at first when I got a bit nervous but iv learnt how to relax a bit now Quote
Steve D Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 I'm like you - very cautious of wet riding. Not so much of a problem on my SH300 scooter but when I'm on my 144bhp FJR, a tad poopy! I've had the bike fishtail because the rear wheel lost traction and saw the speedo go to 140mph and rev counter go to 9000rpm at 70+mph when I crossed a white line when overtaking in the rain in France. Not recommended for the faint hearted. I need to get some of those knee sliders and stick them to the sole of my boots when cornering in the rain. Quote
Guest Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 I've had a couple of fishtails in the rain, it's always fun if you recover. How far is your commute? and How is the tread looking on the tyres? Quote
Guest Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Yeah the white painted lines are lethal and god damn everywhere but I always do my best to stay bolt upright when ever my wheels touch them, I suppose it all comes with experience but I think I am going to do some of the bike sense training with the training school I used to gain my confidence Quote
Guest Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Well its a decent commute approx 26 miles per journey, tyres look pretty good to be honest but I'd be interested in looking into some more with improved grip Quote
Mr Fro Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 I need to get some of those knee sliders and stick them to the sole of my boots when cornering in the rain. That is such a bad idea it's off the map. I wish I had a cricket bat specially for when I see people riding along with their feet down in the rain! Mind you, you can bung them back on your knees afterwards and everyone would think you're a demon rider. Quote
RantMachine Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 What kind of tires have you got on it? That'll make a fair difference in shite weather Quote
Glorian Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 I got new tyres start of the year, riding became less of an "oh my" to more of an "OH YEEEEEEEEEEAH" Quote
RantMachine Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 And I'd swear blind that my Tourances give more grip in the wet than the dry Not that they're an option for a ZX6R, but still, shows what a difference the rubber can make... Quote
fq-craigus Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Wet riding top tip is be smooth! Rear wheel spin is common to be honest when using bike in all weathers but can be reduced by decent tyres and 'smooth' throttle. You will get there with confidence just take your time. Most people have accident on roads thy know 'like the back of their hands' just bare that in mind and think why Quote
