y/day got all my gear on, ready to go on 100 mile plus trip

bike won't start, just a little phut type noise, fuses are OK

change battery for a spare (good as far as I know) and fine

until...

57 miles on, wind the bike up, there's a backfire then dead

ring rescue as nothing, not even turning over after 1.5 hrs

where are those rescue people? I playfully try the bike and

it starts!!!!

cancel the rescue

stop at a pub then it stops again as I'm setting off, dead as

before

then, blow me down, it goes again after about 10 mins and I

slowly get home.

any ideas (XJ600) please?

coils and reg/reg have a history of failing on the xj models coil will break down once warm and reg/rec will fit and work as its wants or doesnt want at the time and will overheat, check condition of plug from reg as well where it connects to main loom it might be burned up inside

thanks eab - been cleaning all terminals and the bike is charging ok at present

that bit about the coils failing with heat, ie: intermittent fault sounds about it

I'll have a look at the rectifier wiring + see if there is anything untoward there
