... I have two new ceiling rose's I need to fit in our living room. One of them is straight forward with just the live, neutral and earth wires but the other is more complex. I think I know what I need to do but want to get some confirmation from someone who knows 100%.

Is the drawing of what I am proposing correct? The right hand drawing (scribbles) is the connections in the new rose and the left hand drawing is the connections in the ceiling.

The numbers in the right hand drawing is where I propose to put the cables from the ceiling. Hope this makes sense.

I would very much appreciate any help before I blow myself up or worse create a fire and hurt my family.

key:

B = Brown

b = blue

The only 'issue' is that your new light has an earth and this should be connected for safety reasons.

It is unusual not to have an earth wire to your ceiling rose connector block (unless the house wiring is well old (old colours = Red; Black & Yellow).

But in principle, Blue to Blue and Brown to Brown (Neutral and Live) connections are OK for a lighting circuit.

UNLESS, your lighting circuit is on the 'eath leakage dector trip' side of your distribution box (this is only if it was wired in incorrectly in the first place!).

They are essentially the same thing. You've got quite a few wires in there so I'm assuming the more simple rose is slaved off that one.

Disclaimer: I'm not a sparky but I have re-wired a few houses, none of which have burst in to flames (as far as I know).

Thanks guys. There is an earth in th old rose GOG but it is connected to the ceiling bracket which I shall be taking off and connecting to the earth on the new rose.

It is a new house, only ten years old. No guarantee that everything was wired correctly though :(

Appreciate your help. Thanks.

I am pleased that they are the same thing Mr Fro because the right hand drawing was my wiring diagram of the left actual rose. :lol:

I think the second is a spur off of the first. Two roses in one larger living room. Three if you include the wife! I was paid to say that :cheers:
