Craig 8150 Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Hi allMy flat racked xs 650 has a fibre glass moulded seat/ panel section ( bolts on ) of which the seat itself fixes by way of good old Velcro !! Having had a pin hole leak in the tank (now fixed ) the fuel perished the glue holding the Velcro ! I bought some araldite seemingly strong , but it isn't ! Any ideas for a SUPER SUPER glue or something suitable that will be very sticky for a Velcro to fibreglass fixing .( strangely the Velcro side stuck to the seat remains well fixed I can peel it off then put it back again and it sticks very well still ! That's what I need whatever the hell it is ! ( SUPER SUPER at any rate ). Quote
oldie59 Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Interested in what glue people recommend, need some good and strong stuff to repair the plastic part of the mounting bracket for one of my panniers. Was thinking about Araldite, but not sure it will do the job? Quote
Mr Fro Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 The normal Velcro adhesive should stick fine so long as the bit it's going on is super clean. For fixing plastics, I use the stuff plumbers use to "weld" plastic pipes together. It gives a great bond because it melts the plastic a little allowing excellent fusion. Quote
soll Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 to restick velcro go to RS and buy new velcrobest way Quote

Guest Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Phil Young knows all about this! Phil pipe up LOL... yes... I am the adhesive king! This stuff will do it;http://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints ... epoxy-weld Quote
Mr Fro Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 The packaging on that looks excessively shit. They badly need a revamp. Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 The packaging is useful in getting the Chimnea lit.The stuff in the tubes is good for metal - not so good with plastic and DO NOT PUT THE CAPS ON THE WRONG TUBES! (not that I'd know anything about what happens if you do ) Quote
RantMachine Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 The packaging on that looks excessively shit. They badly need a revamp. As a citizen of the marketing world, whenever I see packaging like that I think to myself "this stuff must be BLOODY good if they've stayed in business without updating their packaging to 40 odd years". For products like this where you want to buy something that you know you can damn well trust, it works. In an odd kind of way. Quote
oldie59 Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Will be getting the pipe weld stuff later, thanks Mr Fro for suggesting it Quote

However I had a second attempt with the araldite and all sticks well that ends well I think that I may not have mixed it for long enough before sticking it down . Quote
