OK. So I know that under cover marked A is the clutch so I know I need to empty out the oil before removing it.

I also know that under cover marked D is the front sprocket and I can remove that without emptying the oil first.

What about covers B and C? What is under those? I assume that is the crankshaft so Need to remove oil first. Am I correct?

C is the gearbox cover, yes you need to remove the oil first. D is the cover to the sprocket to the back wheel.

B I imagine is the valve chain cover?

C is likely to be the alternator cover......shouldn't be any oil in there.

B could be the starter gear cover....if so, no oil in there.....

Chances are that you could remove the clutch cover with the bike on the side stand, without having to drop the oil......but I'm sure someone who knows the bike better will correct me...

As always, thanks guys.

Apparantly B is the pickup coil cover. What ever pickup coils are?

You are right, Bob, C is the alternator cover. :)

Seems like they are all safe to take off.

The pick up coil is a disc with points on it that spins in time with the engine

The points make contact with a magnetic pick up that tells the coils to produce spark to the plugs

Your timing chain will be behind there too

Excellent. Thanks Stu.

Ollie, if you have time let's meet up. Say hi over a coffee or something!
