Phooey Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 I am starting to peel off the fairings and prepare them for spraying. On the back of all of the front fairingI have a thin piece of foam. What is the purpose of this and if it is removed, parts will be hydrodipped, can I just glue any thin piece of foam back in or even leave it out?I don't suppose it does much to reduce noise so I wondered if it might be something to do with heat protection for the plastic against the hot engine! Is it necessary is what I am asking? oldie59 Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Could be a way of damping out secondary vibes in the fairing panels, or could be way of protecting them as you suggested from the heat of the engine? Quote
Tango Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 It's normally to protect the fairing panels from the heat of the engine, as you surmised. You can buy the heatproof foam and reapply after the panels have been sorted ......... Quote
Mr Fro Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Just don't use that expanding foam stuff, it gets much bigger than you think it will. Quote
