Hi,

I know some of you on here are into model aircraft, cars etc so thought you maybe able to help me.

Ive just started getting back into mode aircraft after an 11 year break. As such the batteries in all my models are well past there best and to be on the safe side id like to replace them all. The problem is i can't find the batteries i need.

The original transmitter battery is a 9.6v 600mah square battery. Would it be ok to use a 9.6v 1200mah? The same question applies to the receiver battery (Just different size and voltage).

Cheers,

Shaun.

its the voltage you need to worry about

the bigger the mah the longer it will last between charges

Just be aware that your old batteries are probably nicads.

Modern batteries are often NiMH/ lithium ion. Make sure you use the right type of charger else it can all get a bit smokey..

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies:)

Its a Sanwa RD6000 which at the time was quiet a good transmitter...alas not any more. However there are some tutorials on adding a 2.4ghz module?

Yes its all crystal equipment. What is been used now? Sorry for my ignorance. The peg board at my possible new flying club shows 2.4ghz...

A lots changed in a decade lol

Take a look at the Spektrum 2.4 radio gear.

Something like a DX5 or DX7 would be a good investment for peace of mind.

I'd always feel nervous on antique radio gear.

i wouldnt get the dx5 but the dx6 is a good unit and yes 2.4 is the way to go now need to get receivers as well but far superior to the old sets on the dx6/7/8 you can program in several different models without changing anything other than a setting on the radio unit, if you wer more local to march or surrounding areas i would say pop down to our flying field on a sunday morning and have a look

Hi,

Eventually I'll upgrade to 2.4ghz but for now I'll have to stick with my crystal transmitter. To be fair in the 10 years we flew we only crashed one model due to interference....the other crashes where pilot error Lol

Thanks for the offer :)...as you say March is a bit of a drive for me! Hopefully taking a look at a club on Monday...if we get some nice weather bwahahah..if.

Agree, DX5 is a bit basic.

I've got a DX7 from a few years back. The software seems pretty much the same as my JR3810 radio. Both very capable radios being more suited to my nitro helis.

A bit too advanced for simples planks ;)

crashing is something im expert at one of my planes has only been flown 5 times and its hit the floor every time for different reasons im sure its not meant to fly but so far ive not had to rapair it harldy at all got to love these foamies, one of the crashes was a fairly tight turn and the battery door fell off and battery went one way plane went the other straight down from about 150ft in the air and just bounced when it hit the floor its so light lol

Gotta love foamies! We've got 2 foamie 'jets' in the garage. Both have been bumped and crashed loads of times. A bit of glue and there ready to go again...wish the same could be said for my poor Limbo Dancer which disintegrated after been rolled end over end on its wing.....she will fly again though!

Main reason to start again is I want to get my son into it. He's only 5 but very eager to learn to fly. Some of my fondest memories are of summer evenings down at the flying field with my old man.
