Guest Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Just had my Honda MOTd and was advised that the brakes have been de-linked. As new, the brakes were linked but it appears the previous owner de-linked them.It got my thinking about insurance...Is this something I would best to declare? And if so, what is the chance that my insurer could refuse to touch me, or put the premium up dramatically? Or would it better that I simply have them re-linked and put back to the original specification? I'm not interested in racing my bike, so that latter would be an option for me if it was worth doing.Advice appreciated. Quote
Mr Fro Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 I'd ring the insurer and ask them the question. Hypothetically of course.Linked brakes work fine on heavier bikes. The only problem I found is you have to change the rear pads more regularly. Quote

People de-link the brakes because they found it good for most circumstances, but nothing manual control couldn't cover. And on top of that people complained of feathering the brake mid-bend being troublesome with the linked brakes. I've ridden one an awful lot and it's completely contrary to my riding style to brake in the corner, and on the odd emergency mid bend, I never had a problem slowing and correcting the bike. So if it will boost your premium then you should just revert back... Unless someone has drilled the caliper, which I know is done during the modification if done a certain way. Quote
Gadgey Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 I would ,as previous posters have said inform the insurers,I would be suprised if it raised your insurance much.Think it would cost a lot more to relink the system. The delink/link bebates have gone on for years but at the end of the day if your braking hard in a corner its you who have made the error and its human nature to blame something else.
