Guest Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Hi guys, new rider here. I bought a CPI Suv 125 on sunday after passing my cbt. All was well on sunday night and drove it 30 miles to work. When leaving work I noticed my headlight was out so I was driving carefully with a high-vis and staying on lit roads. Stopped at halfords and got a new bulb. It was a 12v 35W which is correct accoring to owners manual. I (stupidly) touched the bulb lots of times with dirty hands and then drove away. The old bulb was not new atall and clearly had been in there for a while. Later that night it blew out again. I have used a multimeter on the headlight pins and its reading 12-13v at idle and engine off. But when engine is reved it goes up to 14-14.5v . So is this normal or do I need to replace the voltage regulator rectifier? I have located the reg rec on the bike and am about to order one. Or should I just try another bulb? Thanks. Quote
Tango Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Welcome to TMBF mate......pop over to the Newbies section and introduce yourself to the guys when you can........ Try another bulb first......but this time try not to touch the glass with your fingers...... Quote
Guest Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 It did it again. put new bulb in never touched it with my hands. Everything seemed fine then on my way home in the dark first the low beam went, then the high beam went. Leaving me in the dark . Im going to strip it down on saturday and check the wiring make sure theres no exposed ends ect. Can anyone give me any tips? Please!! I like riding on the road Quote
Stu Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 it could be the reg/rec breaking down once it warms up allowing more voltage to go through! Quote
Guest Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Thanks. I ordered a new reg/rec yesterday. Im confused as the bulb i took out the first time it blew was old, clearly been in there for a while So is this bad timing or what? Quote
Chrissb6 Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Hi and welcome, you might also want to check the condition of your battery . If the battery is shot the regulator senses this and produces an higher than normal charge to compensate hense your blown bulbs Quote
Stu Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I'm going to guess his battery is ok Chris otherwise he would also have starting problems Although a check of all the connections wouldn't go amiss just in case a bad connection between the charging circuit is making the rec/rec think that the battery is flat Quote
Guest Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Im guessing the battery is fine, its is a pain to start (half choke let it run choke off) but i think that just cause of what it is. Will have a look at wiring tommorow. Thanks Quote
Bigbaldsteve Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 Hey there i stumbled across this while googling the same problem with my suv 125.. the web (google) seems to not know these bikes even exist and while ive heard alot of bad things about chinese bikes so far so good (except popping bulbs) my question is did you find out the solution??? my headlights dont light up anymore at all after months of replacing bulbs randomly even though the console and rear lights do!? My knowledge of mechanics is slim at best and i only know what ive learned while having to fix my old cg125 (gaskets, sprockets, brakes, throttle cable etc) electrics are a mystery to me! Also i anyone can help me with a link for a replacement reg/rec id appreciate it, thanks guys for any info you can share (other than avoid chinese bikes lol) Quote
Fozzie Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 The OP never replied. But as a guess, I'd say the regulator was spiking as it got hot. The big problem with Chinese bikes is they only use a single fuse in many cases. This means all sorts of things are not properly protected and get damaged. The bulb in this case being one of them.Replace the reg/rec if yours is having trouble. Quote
