Hello gents and ladies

I have tried to do as much as i can alone and without help, but now I climb the mountain to task the gurus and wise old men (and young ladies)

It died some weeks ago, I had to push star it while on the road (had to do this 4 times before getting to my destination).

Anyway, it first just made a buzzing noise under my seat when I clicked "power!", but now there is no response at all.

I can have my lights on, headlights, brake lights ect, just not the engine part.

I checked the fuses that I know of (any secret ones?), I also replaced the alternator and the battery too. Any thing I am missing guys?

Thank you again!

bike is a zzr e7 600 (1999)

Sorry I can't help I don't fit in to any of those categories

check the starter relay and all associated wiring

check wiring to starter and battery

connect it up to a car battery (without starting it) see if it starts just to double check the battery

another way to check is with volt meter place it on the battery turn ign on and hit starter button see how low the voltage drops when trying to turn engine over also check condition of earth lead from battery to frame

If all the lights work and the horn, but engine does not turn over it might be the starter relay that has failed.

If you have some "thick" wire you could short the two main terminals on the starter relay and see if that turns the starter.

If that does not work could be the starter at fault.

HTH.

Thank you guys

Yeah the fuse was blown from the starter, had to change it. when I turn on my bike and try the electrics the wires around that area are quite warm, I read that this could be part of the bad wiring.

What is meant by "frame", like if it is touching the frame? :P

I looked online and think starter motors are about 25 pound

frame that is the main section that holds the engine/forks/tank/ and the negative from the battery goes and bolts directly onto the frame if thats worn or corroded not making a good contact it would create the resistance stu mentioned causing wiring to get hot but it might be worth checking both battery terminals to check they are clean and corrosion free and there will possibly be a large wire going from the engine to the frame somewhere that could also cause a problem

If the wiring is getting hot then you have high resistance on that wiring

Slight disagreement with this - A short in the starter motor windings will cause an excess current which in turn will cause the wires to get warm (and also blow the fuse - hopefully before a fire starts).

A 'bad earth' i.e. a high resistance earth connection will add resistance to the circuit thus lowering the current through the wires. Any 'bad connection' will cause this.

If the starter motor is OK and the solenoid OK and the earth (ground) connections/plugs/sockets all ok, then I would look for a trapped or chaffed cable that is 'shorting' which would cause the symptoms described.

The easiest way to check for a cable and/or earth fault is as follows:

1. Disconnect and remove (or isolate) the battery.

2. Disconnect the main (thick wire) feed to the starter motor.

3. Connect a car battery (using 'jump' leads) to the disconnected terminal of the starter motor and the frame (mounting bolt). if the starter motor turns over OK, then suspect wiring / solenoid.

4. Remove 'jump' leads and re-connect the starter motor and disconnect the main (thick) wire to the solenoid.

5. Completely isolate the wire disconnected in 4 above (use insulation tape).

6. Reconnect the bike battery.

7. Connect the car battery (using jump leads) to the Solenoid connection and the earth (frame bolt).

8. Turn on ignition and press 'start'. If the starter motor turns OK, then you have a bad connection between the bike battery and the solenoid. if the motor does not turn, then either the Solenoid is caphooey or a starter circuit wiring fault.

9. Ignition off - run a wire from the bike battery to the small terminal on the starter solendoid. if the starter motor turns, then ignition wiring fault. if not, solenoid is faulty.

Good luck.

Really appreciate the long time to type guys!

Saturday will be my report back!

(notes) - I did strip the 6 connecter pins from the battery side to the alternator, re connect them because they were in a bad state.

sound like the same prob i had with my zzr years ago have you check the regulateur they a git on the e7 they f**k everything else up b4 they burnout.

is it different to the alternator?.

Update guys too, I have tried connecting jump leads to the battery, then the starter motor ect. it makes the tick noise that wants to start then thats as far as it gets

But I have 4 spark plugs so that wont be the factor, will it still just be 1 single wire that somewhere is disconnected?

I tried both my batteries and alternators just incase

could be the starter motor itself on the way out if u have used a jump lead directly onto the point that starter cable goes to and of course the other jump lead hooked to frame if that doesnt make the starter motor spin over good chance there lies the problem

My ZZR600e6- similar problem twice for 2 diff reasons. 1- kill switch notorious problem on these bikes, split switch gear spray with contact cleaner and leave to dry, don't have to disassemble totally spray works its way in and evaporates 'WD40 electric contact spray worked for me. 2- same occurred year later battery terminals wire brushed and greased cured it. Good tip when testing charge circuit test battery terminals and test battery posts and between + and engine, frame and starter body. ZZR's notorious for kill switch- rare as rockin horse shit, tried e-bay for ages, no chance. Luck Matey
