Guest Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 I've got a MSI Radeon R9 390 Your's looks great! I've got the corsair H60 closed loop liquid.... Thankfully I've got the 4690K which means I can overclock... Which I have to 4.5gHz Quote
Arwen Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 That's a monster of a graphics card! I had a look at the H60 cooler, was between that and the Artic Freezer 13. Still don't like the idea of watercooled pcs though. I know they have came a long way, but meh... I prefer the older way of doing things I've also, weirdly, never been a fan of over-clocking. Much prefer the longevity of my kit than the speed. SSD's have done more for fast pcs than almost any other component in the last decade in my mind. Quote
Glorian Posted November 27, 2015 Author Posted November 27, 2015 Need to upgrade my graphics card soon, Gonna get a GTX 970 4gb. As well as a new case for better air cooling. Then after that maybe a new processor Quote
Gin Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Yay! Custom rigs I built my own two years ago now (So might be a little out of date but god I don't think I've even used an 1/8 of it's RAM capacity, even while working on engineering FEA and CAD programs!)Will throw pictures up later as I'm going back to my Birmingham flat this weekend where my baby is.. Got the Coolermaster Storm trooper case, so it's a bit Huge! Quote
MrWhippy Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Back in the day I used to build my own machines, this is back when you really had to check all the parts were compatable before ordering. these days i just go online and find the best deal at the time, im currently using a dell all-in-one which is great and runs all the stuff i need it to. I have to many hobbies to get back into PC's at home like that again, and after spending all day at work doing IT stuff the last thing i want to do is start all over again at home. How many IT profesionals find that people are always asking them for help with their PC, i used to get this all the time, when I asked for help back with something especially of tradesmen they wanted to charge me, so I figured ok ill charge them for my help they then argued that IT wasnt a skilled job like theirs and i should help them for free. needless to say i dont see many of them any more. Glorian Posted November 27, 2015 Author Posted November 27, 2015 I get it all the time, Mostly its family. Grand mother buggers up her PC quite a lot. She formatted it the other day without realising how. I don't know how / what she did to it :SAlso have friend who thinks he is IT genius. Not quite so much.. Quote
sparky Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 not that i'm into the modding scene myself, but apparently the future is liquid cooled.... overclocking by a few hundred percent becomes a reality then..https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Irn+b ... d2cgtLs%3D Quote
Gin Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Whhhhaaaattt?!Irn Bru?! My flatmate has a cool system where the majority of his rig is air cooled but the processor has a self contained liquid cooling system by Corsair that I really really like; thinking of upgrading to one in the new year. http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/coolingThough I am a bit of a Corsair fan girl.. Matt Strange Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 My geek rig that I built about 18 months ago, Asus Sabertooth Z87 motherboard, ATI R290 X-Fire, 4770K @ 4.5, Corsair water cooling, 16gb ram, 250gig samsung evo SSD. 1300w psu: Now have a mechanical switch razer keyboard in green to match too. Arwen Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I don't do anything too demanding on my pc to be fair. Games like TESO, Minecraft, some old games (AoE, CC, etc), some mild photo editing and very occasionally video editing. My set up is - i5-4460 quad core, 3.2Ghz, 6mb cacheAsus Geforce GTX 750 TI (2GB)HyperX Fury Series 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1866MHz CL10Asus Z97-A SanDisk Ultra II SSD 240 GB Sata 3 (boot disk)2x 1Tb WD green drives (RAID 1 - Storage drives) Cooler Master V550s PSUAll in a Cooler Master SILENCIO 652S case that sound proofs it all while keeping good airflow running win 8.1.I could have spent extra and bought:a CPU cooler (£30), the K version of the processor (was £40 more at the time) Up'ed to 16GB RAM (£50)Faster RAM (8GB = £30, up'ed to 16gb = £60-£90)WiFi/NFC charging motherboard (£40) Bigger PSU (£30+)After using the build I have for nearly a year, I am glad I did not spend the extra I considered. CPU has never gone above 70 degrees, CPU has never been highly stressed continuously, never maxed the RAM out. I run TESO on nearly max settings. Turning off a few things like grass (it is easier to find things without it...) and turning down the water reflection. FPS is usually high, occasionally drops down to noticeable stutter in some busy towns, but nothing major. I too get the constant requests for help. I now have a rule that advise if free, but if they want me to do anything then I charge for it. Unless I like them and know it will be a quick and easy job If people get annoyed about being charged I simply ask them if they would expect a plumber to come out and fix their blocked toilet for free/bottle of cheap wine. Gin Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 TESO being Elder scrolls online, right?I tried the Beta for that and I really loved the char creation, thought it was so in depth but that the game play didn't deserve the monthly fees they were asking for..Moved to Guild wars 2 instead. How do you find it now?Is it worth another shot? Quote
Matt Strange Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Nice system.I'd personally recommend the K version of an Intel cpu every time, it allows a fully separate overclock on the cpu without compromising timings on other areas of the system like the Ram. I'd argue a overclocked rig tends to be more stable this way too. Quote

I've played it since Beta. It has changed a lot to be fair. Not sure if it is all for the better but there is no monthly fee now. You can choose to pay monthly and get some extras, but it is not a requirement to play any more. There is still some random bugs, and still the stupid amount of items around and not enough space to store them. Crown store is all about paying real money for stupid/pointless things in my opinion. I never spend money on it. And their updating procedure is still torturous when they release a big update. Quote

I'm all about reliability me! I deal with enough broken pcs at work that I want mine to simply work when I get home Quote
RantMachine Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Simplicity can be a lovely thing sometimes! That's why I run a CG247, never having to faff about with calibration is the most wonderful thing ever Although I was very confused one time when everything went very very blue... then realised I'd stuck a post it note over the ambient light sensor. Oops. Quote

It doesn't really add that much performance, mine's sat under a water block so stays at about 65c flat out in Arma III. Not that I get to play it that often or even use this pc in the pictures, I'm nearly always on my laptop due to work and where my home is (Spain). I built the PC when I lived in Oxford so it currently resides at my sister's place just on the outskirts. I'm there at the moment as I'm due to go on holiday in a week's time, chilling out for the next week or so.I've had a bit of a dabble gaming today and yesterday, but it's for the first time in about 6 months. A bit of a waste really! Quote

This is really cool to read, it's definitely taken away some of my fears of playing. Jay (Partner) is a massive Elder scrolls/Skyrim fan and he's been thinking of playing for ages but didn't want to start on something that had a monthly fee as well as being distinctly WoW-ish in the game play. (During Beta I kept getting stuck at quest ends where you had to kill a boss mob. Of course there was 30+ people waiting for this one mob and only one person got the kill.. Very frustrating and kills the emersion ) Might now get him it for Xmas and get back into it myself.. Gotta love the khajiit Quote
Arwen Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I used to play WoW as well, a long time ago! I find TESO much less "go kill 10 of these beasts" then "go kill 20 of these slightly harder to kill beats" than WoW. There is much more story to TESO than WoW The main quest's are virtually bug free as far as I am aware now. But yea, beta an for a few months after launch it was common to get stuck waiting for stuff to happen. It has been a long time since I've had that happen to me. Me and my partner tend to play it together, so not really into the massive guilds that are around. We will occasional venture into Cyrodil and team up with some groups there to take the keeps. Much fun until some stupidly powerful vampire comes and beats us all I still find it a very beautiful game to play. Much like Skyrim, I love walking around and looking at the scenery. Especially at night, with the moons. Khajiit do love the moons (I play as one too) Quote
Glorian Posted November 27, 2015 Author Posted November 27, 2015 Running an intel i5 3.6ghz quadcore.16gb ram1tb WD black HDD128GB (sandisk?) SSDA graphics card (i forgot the name im at work sue me )All cooled by 1 fan in the case I have a new case i want to get soon. Comes with 4 fans and 2 seperate areas so the hot stuff is in one gets extra cooling.Looked at getting water cooling but reckon i'd f**k it up. I never game with my graphics that high anyway so im not to fussed by overclocking. I have mine over clocked a little at the moment to give it a little boost for fallout 4. Quote
Gin Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I may have to ask your server and char name if I join up again then Sounds like a good laugh and yes, I'm one for stunning game views too.. One thing I like about guild wars 2 is it has specific view points in it that you climb up to and it does a cinematic of the area and all the cool local novelties.. Quote
Arwen Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I have been thinking of getting Guild Wars 2 for a while now, might pick it up after christmas. As for TESO, there are only two servers. The USA server and the EU server. I'm on the EU one funny enough I think my account name is arwen_7 there, I'll need to check when I get home. Not been playing it recently, minecraft has been getting in the way! Quote
