soll Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I plan to solo ride to my Father house.. not a big deal you say, but i live in Kent and He lives near Agde, south of France.I have 6 months to prep for it and im starting to look at bags and stuff so that im ready.I only need stuff for the journey and i plan to make 1 stop, so 2 days to travel down and same back with 4 days with the old man.Previously in the car i do the trip in 1 day 750 miles each way. and to be honest i dont enjoy it, but it means more time on actual holiday.I have 2 kreiga bags, a US20 and a US10, with tank bag adapter.I have a Good Richa Jacket, trouser and gloves, my boots are great as long as they stay dry.so for the actual ride and stay i think i have my kit sorted.I then started thinking about the what if's. Well i have AA cover so im cool with that, and Honda Assistance is worldwide so they told me, but im gonna check that.was thinking of getting a tyre repair kit and some extra fuses which make sense.Any suggestions and must have items. The route im taking will avoid all tolled autoroutes except 1, the millau viaduct. cant miss the view.so basically, calais to rouen, rouen to Orleans and then south via Clermont Ferrand, shadowing the A75 to bezierany advise and tips would be good. Hoggs Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Hey Soll, have you seen this thread viewtopic.php?f=12&t=59170&hilit=france lists some of the things you HAVE to do (ie reflective patches on your helmet!) and apparently filtering is illegal but some places let you get away with it but worth remembering! soll Posted January 18, 2016 Author Posted January 18, 2016 filtering .. don't really do that in the UK as car driver are w@nkers Quote
Glorian Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Just make sure you have breakdown suppliesTools for your bike.A torchSpare bulb (front and rear)and a spare spark plug. You can probably find most of that out there if you needed it, but trying to get the local mechanic to understand you.. Not so easy. Also take a taser for getting through calais.. Quote
Guest Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Ha!When are you planning to do this trip? I'm doing the exact same journey at the start of May. Heading to Montpellier/Bezier to see family.I've possibly gone with the slightly crazier option of doing the entire trip in one day. Obviously if things get too much/too tired then I'll have to call it quits and stop at the nearest/field I can find.I see my thread has already been linked above, worth a look as I think most things you might need to consider are covered there. Maybe we need a sticky for European travel advice etc?Just an idea. Quote

Chrissb6 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Just put this up in another thread you might want to consider. If your thinking of knocking up serious mileage you might want to consider one of these."> Take it from me, you don't want to dehydrate and at all cost avoid a kidney stone.Defiantly a must have for high mileage riding, not matter what the weather you'll be surprised just how much you sweat even in winter.
