Valko Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Apologies if that has been posted. I just found it.Europe decides that anything intended for bikes should meet standards.Motorcycle gear manufacturers will be forced to comply with CE. No more games like CE certified armor only for your jacket.http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-news--general-news/ce-marking-for-all-bike-kit/30754.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Of course you can still wear what you want. Flip flops for example. But at least gear marked as motorcycle will comply with standards. Quote
Guest Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Damn europeans over regulating everything and ruining our chances of a horrible death or the pleasures of extensive plastic surgery. how dare they. Sooner we're out and can joyfully risk harming ourselves in peace wearing shoddilly made Chinese gear - the better. Quote

You mean like we have been , and the only thing Chinese is in my stomach or hanging off my chin on a staurday evening . Quote
Guest Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Yes... and you paint a very pretty picture I must say.however my rather jokey response to the news doesn't lose its relevance just because you have (improbably) nothing made in china in your possession. If we leave the EU then what relevance will CE have as its purely an EU device. presumably if we leave then we will no longer be subject to any of the EU directives.. directives which "CE" is probably one of the most visible and significant results of. Consider crash helmets. To comply with CE a helmet from every batch has to be tested to destruction. The makers can avoid this extra burden for NON EU markets. and obviously this isnt just about the chinese.. any maker can make a mistake and send out a faulty batch. brexit talks about lower prices because of the removal of EU interference and no longer being subject to EU directives. for us. CE is a prime example of these directives and the direct influence they have on safety. Quote
TC1474 Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 I have covered this before, but the CE mark is a joke for a whole number of reasons, not least because it is very easy for manufacturers to circumnavigate the PPE requirements and obtan the CE mark with minimal testing. The whole thing needs an overhaul, and if we come out of the EU, then we can put it back in the hands of BSI and get the accreditation done properly. Guest Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 I have covered this before, but the CE mark is a joke for a whole number of reasons. Thats a relief.. the OP was a waste of time as was the article on Visordown and any response. Every item of bike clothing I own that bears the CE label is suspect and any assurance of safety is based on a 'joke'. CE.. a joke. ok.shame I cant delete my previous posts.. giving any credence to what is a 'joke'. Im suitably embarrassed. Quote
