Moving virgin media box

Hi,

Just split up with my GF so she's moved out with the kids and my dads moves in with his GF......great :(

Anyway as such I've now just got a double room. What ID like to do is move the VM router to my room so I can have everything wired rather than wireless.

As luck would have it the little brown VM box is right outside my window. Is it possible to unscrew the current cable which runs to the living room, screw on a new extension, feed it through the window and reattach the router?

I don't want to ask virgin media as they want nearly 100 quid!

Thanks in advance?

I would open up the external box, see whats what and proceed from there. the cable is specific apparently and not commonly available.. so if you want 'new' bear that in mind. I have seen it for sale on Amazon. in 5m and 10m lengths.

Hi,

Unfortunately it was my dads house we were living in whilst my old house sold. He's not been difficult its just id rather maintain a little bit of my own space....so that means TV, XBox and HTPC moving to my room too :) At the moment I don't get to watch my TV as there I. There most nights.

I saw the cable on amazon b didnt know if it was quite as easy as plug and play :)

As long as the ends of the cables are plugged into the same sockets as they were before and you have the right type of cable in between you should be fine.

Might want to run the cable indoors though instead so you don't have to have your window open all the time though, or drill a new whole in your bedroom wall

Hey,

Found a much easier solution. I bought some power line network plugs and the speed is great! Plugged in and working within 30 seconds.

Besides he's gf is an annoying overbearing PITA so I'll soon be moving out!

Thanks for all the advice,

Shaun.
