Guest Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 So I come to my bike after last day of work to find this:http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160506/a38847ff57e753b94dfe13f7adef5eec.jpgIt smells like engine oilIt looks brown like engine oil ... Not what I needed the day after losing your job. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 looks like something is leaking slightly you will need to drop the lower fairing off an have a look it could just be gasket failure or a seal possibly gear selector arm but without pulling that lower off you wont know Quote
Guest Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 have you lubed the chain recently?About a week ago, I can't se wit being chain lube just when I rang M&S they suggested this since it was coming from the left side Quote
Stu Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 more than likely a leaking seal then It wouldn't take a week to show if it was lube plus the side stand would be covered too Quote
tuktuk Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Wasnt your gear selector seal broken that time you dropped it? The new one might not be sealing properly? Quote
Guest Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Looks that way... I'm still OK to ride it home.. Right? I need to get home somehow Quote
Guest Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 It looks like it's coming from a little higher than the selector. I can trace it up a wire to a certain point.. Need the fairing off to see truly where Quote
tuktuk Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 You want to be very careful its not getting on the tyre or you could be on the deck. Quote
Wynne G Oldman Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I actually had the gear lever seal replaced under warranty on one of my bikes, because both I, and the Honda mechanic thought that it was leaking. Turned out to be oil off the chain. Oops. Quote
Guest Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I'm gonna take a whiff of my chain oil tomorrow whilst I do my weekly oiling and if it doesn't smell the same as this.. The fairings coming off I'm almost certain I can chase the leak up a wire but.. I dunno we'l see Quote
Guest Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Either way I'm home and safe (a little stupid of me to ride a bike that I think has an oil leak I know..) and it's not moving until I either:1) Find the source2) it stops leaking enough for me to take it to a garageI tucked the bike in its cover tonight and I now understand why this has went unnoticed.. The cover goes under the bike so no substance would have dripped on the floor for me to see. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 well easy way to check it as its looks a firly big leak is check engine oil level if itsd been a week since you checked it then it should be well down with a leak like that Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 normally yes check handbook/manual to make certain if you are unsure Quote
Guest Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 There's an online handbook somewhere I didn't get one for mine, thanks. Quote
GaryJM Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 You can get the owners manual for most trumpets on their website Quote
Tango Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 I'd whip the fairings off and have a good look round......It could be coming from anywhere and dropping into the bellypan and then dripping from there. Also make sure that the sump breather is connected to the airbox and check the air filter. Have you topped the oil up recently? If you have, make sure you've not overfilled it..... Quote
Guest Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 Fairings coming off in about 30 mins but apparently on he tt600 it's a pig to do. Quote
Guest Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 Whoever has had the fairings off previously have made it a doddle, everything was lubed up http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160507/914a85a788dc6685c4e761eec47167f9.jpgAlso noticed my coolant is at Minhttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160507/bc0841d184df8451e8e126070ac4e374.jpgThe leak is coming from higher up so think it's a fuel tank off jobbie.. Although what is this plug.. The end of it looks wet?http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160507/da3925906c661944253dff2778aae54e.jpgAlso found out why my indicators were intermittent..http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160507/c5bf3ce7c182f5cd431ed431336e90d7.jpg Quote
Guest Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 I'm so confused, finished off with a dipstick test and it's at the max Mark.. So it must be a petrol leak..?http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160507/629e81673105ff487e079a2ede375372.jpg Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 the plug that you can see if you mean the one with the yellow stripe on it is the main lead to the starter motor it will be a nut connecting the cable to the motor under the rubber only reason it has oil or wetness on it is due to it dripping or spraying onto it as there is no oil inside it Quote
