It smells like engine oil

It looks brown like engine oil

... :( Not what I needed the day after losing your job.

looks like something is leaking slightly you will need to drop the lower fairing off an have a look it could just be gasket failure or a seal possibly gear selector arm but without pulling that lower off you wont know

have you lubed the chain recently?

About a week ago, I can't se wit being chain lube just when I rang M&S they suggested this since it was coming from the left side

It looks like it's coming from a little higher than the selector. I can trace it up a wire to a certain point.. Need the fairing off to see truly where

I'm gonna take a whiff of my chain oil tomorrow whilst I do my weekly oiling and if it doesn't smell the same as this.. The fairings coming off :( I'm almost certain I can chase the leak up a wire but.. I dunno we'l see :(

Either way I'm home and safe (a little stupid of me to ride a bike that I think has an oil leak I know..) and it's not moving until I either:

1) Find the source

2) it stops leaking enough for me to take it to a garage

I tucked the bike in its cover tonight and I now understand why this has went unnoticed.. The cover goes under the bike so no substance would have dripped on the floor for me to see.

I'd whip the fairings off and have a good look round......It could be coming from anywhere and dropping into the bellypan and then dripping from there. Also make sure that the sump breather is connected to the airbox and check the air filter. Have you topped the oil up recently? If you have, make sure you've not overfilled it.....

Whoever has had the fairings off previously have made it a doddle, everything was lubed up :)

The leak is coming from higher up so think it's a fuel tank off jobbie.. Although what is this plug.. The end of it looks wet?

I'm so confused, finished off with a dipstick test and it's at the max Mark.. So it must be a petrol leak..?

the plug that you can see if you mean the one with the yellow stripe on it is the main lead to the starter motor it will be a nut connecting the cable to the motor under the rubber only reason it has oil or wetness on it is due to it dripping or spraying onto it as there is no oil inside it
