Phooey Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Just checking ... brake light doesn't operate with front brake. Rear works fine so not balb. Took connectors off and shorted across ... brake light works. Nothing else not working so brake light switch duff? Do you agree? Quote
Tango Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Yep.....surely sounds like it's the switch..... Quote
Phooey Posted August 30, 2016 Author Posted August 30, 2016 Yep.....surely sounds like it's the switch..... Cheers for the confirmation, Bob. Quote
Stu Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 you can open them up and clean the contacts in them I have had a few fail but they have just ended up needing a clean up Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 A spray with 'contact cleaner' can help. Quote
Phooey Posted September 3, 2016 Author Posted September 3, 2016 Thanks guys ... got a replacement ... the old one had something broken because the pin floated with no spring.Anyway, fitted the new switch and the brake light comes on but only when the lever is pulled right in - (i'd be over the bars by this stage with the fireblade upgrade calipers) - so, is there a way to adjust it? I can't see a way.I have a feeling the bloody MOT people will fail it again. Quote
Tango Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 Any adjustment in the switch position? ......otherwise you may need to improvise a bit..... Quote
Phooey Posted September 3, 2016 Author Posted September 3, 2016 No, Bob. It has a location pin that needs to be seated. I cant think of a way of improvising Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 cant you super glue something onto the end of the pin to extend it slightly Quote
fq-craigus Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 I replaced two on my last gixer, they are common enough to be faulty Quote
Phooey Posted September 3, 2016 Author Posted September 3, 2016 Pulled the old one apart and found the spring had come detached ... bar stuard to put it back on but managed it and now the switch works. Happy days. Back in for MOT Monday. Quote
