Are motorbike tyre machines different to car tyre machines for the removal and fitting? Also do the balancing machines differ?

Got access to both but wondered if I can use them for my bike.

tyre machines are the same but you need plastic rim protectors on the clamps to stop damage

if your workplace has none you can easily buy them off ebay for cheap

as for wheel balancers that depends on the balancer some are made to do bike wheels and some are just car only

you would need stick on weights for bike wheels which most places use anyway as most cars are alloys now

The machine for removing the tyre on a bike is the same as for a car. The main thing is the bead breaker which is a god send.

The balancer is somewhat different in the way that the wheel is attached to the machine, but it is only an attachment which can be easily changed,

The good thing about having the proper machine is that you also get a few built in accessories, for example a claw to spread a tyre open so you can do repairs and plug punctures.

Once you have done a few tyres, removing and balancing becomes a very simple job

I have not long given away all my tyre changing machines and equipment from the days I had my own business.

This reminds me

When breaking the bead on the front wheel ensure that the brake disc is not pushed against the machine/rubber I have seen this done before resulting in a bent disc! Sometimes you have to use a spacer to keep the disc away from the machine/rubber

It does depend on the machine though

MACHINE?!? PAH!

What's wrong with spending hours scraping your knuckles and swearing?

Yeah, I'd like one.

I am in between the swearing and the lazy machine option

Honestly get a manual one like I have its not as easy as a full machine but a lot less blood sweat and tears

Just use tyre levers myself, but i got a good bead braker, cant do it without that

Same here - you've got to be mega careful not to scrape the rims with cold or stiff tyres when using levers.

I think Stu's "device" is a really good compromise.

I was a bit sceptical at first! I thought it would be just as hard

But upon using it for the first time it was dead easy and only took 30 mins to remove refit and balance two tyres! no swearing either
