Guest Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Hi all,Right just taken the front wheel off etc to investigate steering issue. When turning the front wheel and recentering the steering it kind of jumps back to the center when it's almost centralised. Not a smooth flow from side to side. What could cause this? Cheers Quote
Stu Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Steering head bearings Sounds like they are notchy Quote
Maxorama Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Yep I'll seccond that ! Your bike will feel a lot nicer to ride with a new set in as well Quote
iangaryprice Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 As said above, you need new head bearings. Be very careful whne you adjust them. If you set them too tight they will be damaged.Turn the adjuster untill there is no play, back it off a about 1/6 turn, when you tighten the locknut the small amounto of play will be taken out.If there is some play, mark the adjuster, loosen the lock nut, move the adjuster a small amount, tighten lock nut and check.Be patient, ts better to do it gradualy starting with play, slowly removing the play untill its correct. Overtightening will damage the bearings. Quote
Guest Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 Cheers guys, yeah I thought that'd be the case and the wear on the front tyre is compounding things. I'll order some new head bearings later and then should have some time to sort it all over the weekend. Quote
Guest Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 Additional question: Is there much difference when it comes to bearings? Any recommended brands or some such, currently looking at these and not really any idea whether the additional money makes a difference or not.https://www.motorcycleproducts.co.uk/steering-head-bearings-suzuki-gsxr600-2002-p-141558.html £38http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-GSXR-600-K1-K2-K3-K4-K5-K6-Steering-Head-Bearings-Both-Seals-NTN-Brand/321320650860 £21 Quote
