CRANKCASE BREATHER

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi all

I'm in the process of completing a very nice brat style 125 and have installed pods and re-jetted

What I want to know is when I put the filter on for the crankcase can I put it straight on to the crankcase or do I need to keep the pipe and attach it to that...I'm trying to tidy everything up so I'd like to get rid of the pipe if possible

Thanks all

Whatever looks best , its only to stop dirt getting in.

Is that literally all it's for? I'll just put it straight on the crankcase then and get rid of the excess pipe

Thanks for the reply as always

Well no , its to vent oil vapour and prevent excess pressure caused by moving parts. It's normally vented into the air box so it can be burned off. If you remove the air box you need to put something in place to stop dust and dirt finding its way back in.

So if I just put the filter straight on the crankcase it should be fine then

You can't vent the crankcase back to the crankcase! Vent it to a catch container and check it regularly.

Eh? He's venting to the outside but there is no air box. I've run several bikes with pod filters and a little K&N vent filter fitted directly to the crankcase. Never had an issue with stray oil, this would only happen if it was over filled or in extreme conditions like racing or drag racing.
