not starting first time

Quick question sometimes my bike isnt starting first time, is there anything simple that could be causing this? ive read bits and bobs but lots of things people mention like tinkering with idle speed, cleaning carb, all dismantle things solutions.

Cant be anything serious if its only sometimes when bike has been sat over night.... right is it as simple as its just cold?

When it happens the engine starts then you hear the revs slow right down to a chug chug chug stop. if you switch into first when it doing this engine instantly stops.

Usually i can start the bike then slowly rev the engine a few times till it sounds more alive then switch up into first and its fine, other times i have to use the choke.

What bike it is? Can be a carburetor stting or, cam chain worn.

yamaha sr125 i think its the carb needs cleaning/tuning from reading about tbf but just checking in if its possibly something simple ive overlooked

has the carb drained its self over night , if so properly only a sticking float

i'd have to open and check it out she starts fine rest of the day just seems the odd morning if she has been sat a while i get this problem

Nah fires up first time no problem with choke, some mornings dont need the choke at all if its just the cold happy days

Use the choke on a cold start and knock it off as it starts to warm up thats what it is there for

ah ok lol i thought it was just for really bad mornings like ice/snow conditions didn't think it was cold enough to need the choke atm. Im new to bikes, can you tell?

My bike has an auto choke and will come on straight away till its warm enough to come off if I have been out and about then it will start with little choke then go pretty much straight off but if left its on full

Other bikes I have had even in summer they have needed choke to start

in the summer maybe start half choke and it will have hit 42 degrees by the end of the road which is when I turn it off (as I'm then on the north circular so won't be stop starting for a while)

Winter normally needs to start with a bit more choke, then turn down to half then leave it on probably twice as long until the engine gets to 44ish

You'll soon learn what your bike is happy with, the 125 took longer to heat up. Mine runs a bit rich and I prefer a higher idle to what the Haynes recommends so it warms up a bit quicker.

Even in the height of summer my GPX always need some choke to start in the morning.

If it needs it do it.

awsome im glad its normal then I just wasnt sure if it was an issue or not, thanks for all the advice folks .
