Arek Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 Hello, I just bought sr125 1996 with faulty starter motor and spent all evening looking for spare one all over the shop without success. There is one auction on eBay for the second hand one. As I was searching online for the starter motor I found information that Yamaha sr125 1996 was using the same engine as Yamaha tw125 1999 and by looking on the pictures both starters looks just slidly different on the side when fixings are?And here's my question.Did anyone installed Yamahas tw125 starter motor in Yamaha sr125 engine? Thanks in advance. SlowBusa Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 Hiya,Take it apart and clean it....as long as the magnets are still in place on the inside of the cylinder it could save you some ££Maybe just needs a clean and possibly new brushesYou have nothing to lose by doing so Quote
Tango Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 Unless the coils have burnt out it's likely that it's just dirty or brushes are sticking or worn out, as SlowBusa says.......easy fix...... Quote
fastbob Posted April 6, 2018 Posted April 6, 2018 Same again, strip it , clean it and give the commutator plates a buff with the finest wet and dry paper (2500) There's many a good starter motor thrown away when all that was needed was a good clean . Quote
Arek Posted April 7, 2018 Author Posted April 7, 2018 Hi, Thanks for replying, you're probably right guys. I striped down starter and looks like brushes need replacing, and one of the tensioners snapped as well. But there is another problem, I couldn't find brushes for my starter anywhere. If anyone could help please. The starter model is Mitsuba sm7252. Quote
