Chrissb6 Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 Hi,has anyone on here driven from Los Angeles to San Fransico on Highway 1? We're going in the summer as a family group thing, not on the bike. Any pointers for sightseeing, accommodation things to do and not to would be grateful. Quote
Bender Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 Stick to the coast 101 you will hit most things worth seeing, we doing half that trip later in the year l. Quote
megawatt Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 Yep 101 is best road. Loads of nice motels. Hearst Castle, Big Sur, Carmel Quote
Chrissb6 Posted January 27, 2019 Author Posted January 27, 2019 Thanks for the reply'sWe're going in June, there's 5 of us. I'm undecided whether hire a camper or use the Motel's, you say there are plenty of Motel's any pointers = recommends also do we need to book in advance thanks again Quote
Bender Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 USA is riddled with motels, you just have to weigh up cost with probability of being murdered, as one goes down the other goes up , never had issues with cheap accommodation on the fly in us or canada Quote

Beansie Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 I didn’t plan the trip I have to be honest but it’s me, my girlfriend, her mum and sister. I asked for the details of what we are doing and this is the reply I got...Monday 15th April fly to San Francisco and stay at the Argonaut for two nightsWednesday 17th drive 2 1/2 to Yosemite national park, spend the day there and stay at Tenaya Lodge that night.Drive to Death Valley.....about 5/6 hours, staying at The Ranch at Death Valley, having a look around in the morning then driving to Vegas (2 1/2 hours) and staying at the golden nugget (Friday 19th, sat 20th) hopefully going to the Grand Canyon on Saturday! Driving to Anaheim on Sunday and staying at the Sheraton Park hotel overlooking disney Sunday and Monday nightTuesday we fly to Orlando! Hopefully want to pull in Hollywood whilst in LA, so either go there before Anaheim or on our way to the airport! In Disney we’re staying at the animal kingdom lodge kidini village until Friday 3rd of May, then going to vero beach for two nights before flying back and Sunday 5th, land Monday morning After the two nights in SF we then have a car on hire until we fly to Orlando (Ford Expedition XL) we had one last year when we did New York to Orlando and we loved it! Checked out most the accommodation I’m looking forward to the golden nuggett as I believe it has a water slide which goes through a shark tank and it’s own casino! Quote
Bender Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Been to golden nugget it's showing its age a bit but it's all good, jumping off the stratosphere is a must Quote
Beansie Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 I’ve heard people say it’s the most terrifying thing they have ever done, makes me want to try it! Wanted to ride the Vegas zipline but apparently it’s closed during our time there Quote
Bender Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 Zip line is pants your missing nothing there, they do sunset drink and nibble offer at top of stratosphere, you can watch the jumpers go by Quote
