Hi guys and girls - prepare for a silly question

Ive worked on cars for many years but never bikes

My rear tyre is getting low soim booked in to have it changed tomorrow however on the way home tonight ive got a puncture that leaks so fast it wont hold pressre for more than a few minutes.

Ive managed to get the wheel off (rear) so can take it in the car to get it changed but I was wondering if its something that can be done like a car tyre ?

I have access to a car tyre machine and balencer but is that how bike tyres are done or are the machines different ? :?

You can use the same machine

you just need to be careful when breaking the bead and make sure you dont rest your brake disc against the machine! I have seen it done!

you should also have plastic covers for the claws on the machine otherwise it could mark the rim

as for balancing you need the right adaptors for the spindle but that's about it really

You mean plugged? Yes, they can be done.

You can use the same equipment of car and bike wheels - you just need to make sure you have the right sized cones for the balancer.

Edit: Beaten by Stu!

I picked up a puncture a few days before my tire was booked in for a change, I just nipped to Halfords and got the small can of tyre weld. Did the job fine, just make sure you tell the guy changing the tyre it is in there or he will get a nasty surprise!

Went for the get someone else to do it this time but at least i know its possible with the right adaptors.

I have no idea if the right ones are there so im going to have a hunt for what they look like etc
