Millmansteve Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Hi All First Timer Here Could anyone help me clarify a few things for me please I've recently had a motorcycle accident bike was written off ( Cat B) and a settlement agreed with me and the company that done the assessment but without out them telling me the third party insurer decided to take an amount from my settlement for Salvage and said I could keep the bike. I have received the bike back it had front end damage and is still rideable.Am I allowed to sell this bike whole and say let someone have it as track bike or does it have to go to a Salvage company. Would just like to know about the Legal requirements if anyone could help would be much appreciated Quote
Tiggie Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 You are allowed to use/sell parts of the bike but the frame has to be scrapped. So short answer is no Quote
Tiggie Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Just as an addendum: They changed the system a few years ago, no longer have cat c or d anymore, this is what the categories are now.A – Scrap onlyB – Break for partsS – Structurally damaged but repairableN – Not structurally damaged, repairableOnly cat s & n are allowed back on the road and you are only allowed to sell or buy s & n write-offs wholly Quote
Millmansteve Posted August 8, 2020 Author Posted August 8, 2020 Hi Thanks to you for replying so it narrows it down a bit so won't be able to just sell the bike whole to anyone other than a licensed Salvage company or i suppose I could strip it down myself but would I then have to send the frame to a Salvage company? Or just cut it up myself The bike in question is a Yamaha MT07 2014 and the accident wasn't my fault I had a delivery van reverse at speed into me trapping me underneath Quote
Tiggie Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 Ouch! You are the second person this year I have heard of that happening to Other was a friend of my Boss. A Hermes van reversed into her Porsche Driver then pretended not to speak English and drove away, when Police started dealing with the matter they were told the Hermes guy said SHE drove off Still ongoing as she is fighting it after her insurance decided to go with 50/50 blame despite her not even being in the car so clearly not her fault Quote
