Rowan Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 I am restoring my 1958 BSA A10 Super Rocket. The chrome on my petrol tank needs restoration. The tank has in the past been dented, and a previous owner has tried to pull out the dent by brazing on a bolt to use as a puller, which has resulted in this part of the tank being all crinkly. I need to fill this with polyester putty and sand it down to get the surface level again, which means that the surface will be non-conductive, and so I can't use an electroplating method. Can any one recommend the best method of getting this chrome to look like chrome again? For example, I've seen the the Stuart Semple "Mirror" product. They make great claims for this product. Has anyone used it, and can report on how well it works? If you have used it, did you cover it with some kind of clear coat? If so, what did you use, and what was the result? I have seen reports that the clear coat ruined the chrome effect. Or have you used anything else that either did work well, or did not? Thank you - Rowan Quote
Ian Frog Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 Ask yourself if you could find anyone that was taught lead loading ? I would have thought that as a filling method this would be the best conductive method. I am sure someone will be along with a helpful suggestion soon though. Cheers Ian 1 Quote
fastbob Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 The easiest way of achieving a flawless repair to a chrome petrol tank is to take your right ( Or left ) hand and thrust it deep into your trouser pocket .
