Following a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, The Handbuilt Motorcycle Show returns to Texas’ capital city Austin, where the local’s motto is “Keep Austin Weird.”

For those who love custom motorcycles and MotoGP, Austin will make this April just weird enough. For motorcyclists, anyway. During the Grand Prix of Americas weekend, April 8–10, Austin-based Revival Cycles will once again host its Handbuilt Motorcycle Show.

The seventh edition of the show, which is sponsored by BMW, Rogue, Progressive, Circuit of The Americas, Dell, Indian Motorcycle, and Husqvarna, will be located in and around the facilities of the Austin American-Statesman, home to Austin’s widely read news publications.

Over 150 custom-built bikes and an interactive art gallery will be on display during the three-day event, scattered throughout 100,000 square feet of curated show space. More than 25,000 attendees are expected.

Revivals Cycles’ “The Fuse,” a custom that uses a Ducati 1100 air-cooled engine, will make its public debut in 2022.

“The Handbuilt Motorcycle Show was originally conceived as an excuse to get together with motorcycle builders from all over the world who inspired Team Revival,” says Alan Stulberg, the show’s founder and the founder of Revival Cycles.

The show, which launched in 2014, is the perfect hosting ground for moto enthusiasts to witness rare builds, mingle with the craftspeople, and witness some unique moto-focused displays of “the beauty of what can be created by hand, from welders to leather makers, engine gurus, and metal tinkerers.”

“What it has developed into over the years,” Stulberg says, “is an artistic display driven by a passion for motorcycles that far exceeds our wildest expectations.”

Revival Cycles showcases a new build every year. This year Team Revival wrenchers will unveil “The Fuse,” a custom using a Ducati 1100 air-cooled engine, along with the “Alloy Guzzi.” Both bikes will make their public debut in the Design Lounge.

Expect one of those bikes to steal the show, as Revival Cycles did during the last show in 2019 with “The Birdcage,” a bike based on the then-prototype BMW R 18.

The focus of the bike, which is inspired by Maserati’s famous Tipo 61, is the enormous air-cooled 1,802cc boxer powerplant. After much anticipation, the BMW R 18 was released in 2021. For 2022, it’s now also offered in an R 18 B, with the “B” standing for bagger, and the R 18 Transcontinental.

Roland Sands, founder of Roland Sands Design, is always a presence, showcasing various builds.

“The Handbuilt Show represents the cutting edge of custom motorcycle building, where attendees get a peek at the next cool thing,” Sands says in a press release. “It’s actually a challenge to pinpoint that new trend. There’s so much to be inspired by that it can be a bit overwhelming.”

Revival Cycles says it’s currently accepting exhibitor entries for those interested in submitting custom hand-built motorcycles.
