It has to be split correctly which for these plates is 2 letters, 2 numbers, space, then 3 letters. Quote
SuperMe79 Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 The top one is illegal according to The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001. The full legislation is available online here http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2001/20010561.htm. Scroll to the bottom for some diagrams of what IS allowed. Note that fancy fonts and strategically positioned bolts are also illegal. Quote
Guest philgale Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 ok, first of all welcome to the forum, anything other than the bottom one is illegal, ie smaller letters, shadows or spacing.so first pic is illegal and you can expect a 30 quid fine (i think its still 30 quid) and if your caught a few times the DVLA can take the plate back off you without giving you your money back... SuperMe79 Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Interestingly it's actually illegal to have a front number plate on a bike if registered after 1st Sept 2001 6. (5) In the case of a motor cycle or a motor tricycle which does not have a body of a type which is characteristic of the body of a four-wheeled vehicle - (a) a registration plate must not be fixed on the front of a vehicle if it was first registered on or after 1st September 2001 (b) a plate need not be fixed on the front of the vehicle if it was first registered before 1st September 2001. Guest philgale Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 to be honest, i would go for it....if i take the plate off my car and put it on the bike it would look stupid having it spaced properly....i havnt had a problem with it on my car, although it is spaced correctly Quote

Guest Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 mate , do what you want. Ive been told about mine a couple of times but havent had a fine.mines definately a 'show plate' its only 9 inches long and about 2 and a half high A big plate on mine would look ugly. We had a customer at Carnells who the mechanic realised has no number plate hanger or number plate. when the mechanic told him it must have fallen off the guy replied ' i didnt like the way it looked so took it off' hed been riding round with no plate for 6 months !!
