gaz Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Am I right in thinking if you put it on a dyno run and get the evidence off that, it is as good as one of those certificate things? would be more fun to get the guy to have it pushing 33 horses for the 2 years then get it back on the dyno again to tune its nuts off afterwards Quote
Guest Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 I've been there done it..... been caught... after a crash. Got the 3 points. As i told the truth i got off with 3 points for LC20 - Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence. If i hadn't i'm sure i would have got done for no insurance as well. What makes it worse is i paid the £100+ to get it restricted a few months before. Yes at times the R6 felt slow and sluggish restricted... (after all a 100bhp bike really doesn't want to be tied into 33!) BUT it still could do 110mph and would beat any car off the lights.Yes once you have the certificate there is about a 90% chance you won't get caught. BUT if you have a crash you won't be insured.... so you won't get a pay out and end up with points/ban.Its your choice! you can get the kit fitted. If you decide to restrict it there are a couple of options....Buy a second hand kit off ebay, fit it yourself and get a dyno print out. OR pay the money and get the real certificate.Either way the Police can still seize your bike and check its restricted. At the end of the day its your choice. If you decide to keep it un-restricted i wouldn't post it all over the tinterweb. Quote
andrewh Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 I'm not gonna criticise, i put risk it for a laugh, when i was 18 i drove my mums car without having passed my test, i was bricking it though when a police car went past and wasn't driving paricularly great as it was dark and icy and my friends were messing about txting etc, Quote

Platty5791 Posted September 8, 2008 Author Posted September 8, 2008 thanks for the brilliant feedback everyoneWhat I'm Going To Do:Get it restricted at the local garage£174.50 for kit£55.00x2 Labour =/and live out the 2 years, and just look forward to driving what will be a new bike after the 2 yearsthanks for the help and guidance.love you all already =p Quote
Guest Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Excellent choice... I did it.... and the time soon passes by.... once out and you got a brand new bike Quote
butlergremlin Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 You wont regret it, I am on a restricted licence and have been for 18 months now. have learned alot from it, Quite a few times while i have been out and had a near miss i have thought to myself OHH If i had been on a bigger bike that would have been nasty, I have build up some good experience on the road - (Or so i like to think). But like you I cannot wait to loose the restriction in March. FZR6 here I come. Quote
softwarez Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 I wouldn't bother. I know it may sound harsh.. but if you risk it.. I do hope you get caught... We all have to stick to the rules Quote

Platty5791 Posted September 8, 2008 Author Posted September 8, 2008 I Agree, although i appreciate the feedback + honesty!I'm sticking with my decision now to play it safe and ride restricted :] Quote

Scorpion Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Good choice. Nice to see you made the right one. Quote
Guest Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 I have just filled in my claim for for the stolen bike and one of the documents they require is a certificate of the restrictions. It does not apply to my bike, but say It did and I crashed it, its the first thing the engineer would want to look at. No restrictor kit bang goes the claim. Some would say I would put the washers back in etc, but kinda hard to do if and ambulance is taking you to hospital and the police take it to a yard. You made the right choice because all the evidence I have is that the right bike restricted is still very fast of the mark and only suffers top end, still good for a ton though. p.s mine will be a restricted Suzuki SV650 when I pass (eventually).
