V650 Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 howdy Wifey has booked a trip to York next week The Return leg is on a Tuesday @ about 11:00 So I imagine we need to be at the airport around 9:00 and return the rental car A quick look on google maps says it's about 32 Mls around 50 mins via A59 and & A658 Does anyone here drive that route and can offer any advice on how bad the traffic is at that time of the morning I am asking as I drive for work and the traffic in Wicklow can be mad at that time of the day often taking 1.5 hrs to go 20 km so any idea of how early I would need to leave would be great Thanks J Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Not sure, but did you put in the day and time of travel into Google maps? It's quite a useful feature and usually pretty accurate. 1 Quote
bonio Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 I find that that waze does a good job of telling you how long a journey will take. Put in the journey and when you need to arrive and it will even give you a notification when you should leave. 1 Quote
Yorky Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Don't know where you are staying in York but if you intend trying to get onto the A59 at a time suitable to get to LBA for 09.00 then you need to be allowing at least 1.5 hours. That time of day is terrible on York ring road, school runs, workers etc. and the Upper Poppleton roundabout is a real pinch point. 1 Quote

Staying at Nunthorpe Ave which looks close enough to A59 Google maps is suggesting Scarcroft road on to A1036 and on to A64 to A659 with similar time of 1hr 20 mins Also looks like october half term school hols so fingers crossed traffic might be slightly less What do you think ? Thanks for the replies Edited October 20, 2024 by V650 Quote
Yorky Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 From Nunthorpe Ave you definitely want to be going the A64/A659 route. Without school traffic you should do it in an hour. 1 Quote
