Hudson Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 brought mine new in 23, but it’s broken down so many times I’ve given up riding it 1 Quote
bud Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 That sucks. Isn't that one of the models that suffers from the cam issues? My mate brought the 390 duke a few years ago. Loved it, but couldn't live with the constant problems either. It's a real shame. He won't buy another. Quote

To be fair, KTM have put their big boy trousers on admitted there is/was a fault, they are now offering to resolve the issue as goodwill, they claim the cam issues have affected 250 out of 55K so roughly 0.05%. My issue is they don't have enough qualified techs to either repair or service the bikes correctly (don't ask how I know) 1 Quote
bud Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 That's good they will fix them now. I know they were originally charging to replace them. Unlike BMW who never admitted liability over the dropped valves, which destroyed engines on early RR models. Just quietly updated the parts. Quote
RideWithStyles Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 (edited) Ktm fast but unreliable to some other brands, they suffer with head gasket problems and a few other things. yes at least they admit they’d fooked up so I’d give them some leeway unlike bmw and Honda… well if its a summer bike winter is knocking so plenty of time for them to mull over the bike… Some may say most dealers/their techs are barely trained /attentive to service them properly let alone a full strip and put back together of a major component. 12 hours ago, Pie man said: To be fair, KTM have put their big boy trousers on admitted there is/was a fault, they are now offering to resolve the issue as goodwill. Good will? . Sounds like imitgation PR bull. And they know the numbers of failure already, they either knew and threw it in on the chance anyway or they dont check shite, either way poor work and business practices. would be probably cheaper and better (especially im for the customer) just to send a new engine out…as depending on what “the cam failure was” actually is but no doubt it will have affected the other parts the have direct or indirect contact with it. Pie man Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 The good will part of their PR strategy I read refers to bikes out of warranty and/or not serviced at KTM but an independent (with receipts) I would rather go to an independent mechanic in all honesty. The one good thing about their reliability, they have one of the best European breakdown covers on offer 1 Quote
