Graham foxall Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Does anyone know the best way to get black engine paint off without taking the engine out. Quote
husoi Posted January 16 Posted January 16 You will find high temperature spray paint online. I bought some years ago when my iron got all scratched. The one I found was for temperature up to 800 degrees Celsius Quote
Simon Davey Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Hi @Graham foxall are you referring to the block and cylinders/heads? Covers can be done by draining the oil, removing the cover and taking to a local shotblaster. Quote

Graham foxall Posted January 16 Author Posted January 16 Yes got a 1983 vt500 honda shadow. Paint looks rubbish on it and wanted to get it back to the metal finish but didn't really want to take it apart. Was told paint stripper but not sure on that because of all the rubber parts Quote

Maybe they could be coated with grease to protect from paint stripper?? Quote
Ian Frog Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Modern paint stripper wouldn`t strip mud off your socks as all the active ingredients have been downgraded due to health and safety. I have seen very good results from using high pressure steam cleaners but you would have to be very careful of electrics and bearing seals. Cheers Ian 1 Quote
