EkkieThump Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Hey all. Recently caught the bug and now working up to my full A license, wife thinks I am having a mid life crisis One thing I have been looking at is a way to get the gear peddle to be shifted up and down without having to move my foot under and over. Is there a modification out there to help? Or am I just going to have to learn to accept the pain in my foot when I change gears? Many hugs, Ekkie 1 Quote
husoi Posted February 4 Posted February 4 (edited) Why on earth you would want to do that? Wouldn't exercise and practice help alleviate any pain? I have similar issues with arthritis but not so bad that shifting would.cause.a problem Edited February 4 by husoi 1 Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted February 4 Posted February 4 I'd give it a while see if you get used to it. If not, have a look at the lever, it's likely to be adjustable. Loosen off the clamp bolt, pull lever off the splines move round one or two notches and re-tighten. 1 1 Quote
Simon Davey Posted February 4 Posted February 4 (edited) Hi @EkkieThump, firstly, welcome to the forum, it's one of the friendliest bike forums in the UK. Welcome to the best mid-life crisis. Regarding your foot pain, do you already have an issue that's just made worse by changing gear? It could be just your boots are too stiff, or too tight around the ankle and not giving you enough room to change gear without effort. Are you wearing boots, or just carpet slippers? EkkieThump Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 Ha! Love the slippers comment I think I will just need to get used to it, my ankles are rubbish after years of abuse. Will also invest in some better boots. Will be doing my full A when I have saved the pennies, looking at doing some taster sessions to get on bigger bikes soon. Thanks all for the welcome, I look forward to chatting with you in the future 4 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Hi and welcome. Well other than an automatic/scooter would be, a semi or DCT and most know them as, Honda do one with the ncx750 for example. the other is to adjust what you have now to give yourself some comfort. As Fiddles said, I would have shown you but I’ve deleted the pic and can’t find the post to link it to. so under the foot peg will be a rod with locking nuts for most bikes, this is fine adjustable for the lever height longer to lower and shorter to raise, you’ll probably want it higher. if there isn’t enough adjustment reset the rod to the middle and look to the clamp that it’s connected to the gear shaft out of the engine case, one tooth adjustment does a lot so don’t go mad with it. 1 Quote
ballibeg Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Much easier to get a DAS course on a geared bike then follow with an auto of some sort. I tried to find an auto course, impossible. I did the geared DAS and now have a Honda ADV scooter. 1 1 Quote

EkkieThump Posted February 7 Author Posted February 7 Cheers guys. I have looked at different boots and will try them out. My next step will then be doing a DAS and hopefully joining the "gang" properly 2 Quote
Guest Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Get a Yamaha with the Y-AMT system? There is no clutch or gear shifter at all. Quote
