SkillzhotsBulimy Posted February 25 Posted February 25 I have a 2019 Tiger 800 XRT and the alarm has totally knackered the battery. (To be fair, it probably needs replacing anyway by now.) At the moment, it's on a permanent trickle charge in my garage, but the battery is so damaged now that even if I ride for about an hour the battery is dead again after about 20 minutes or so and needs a booster shot to restart the engine so I can get home. So I obviously want to replace it, but as soon as I disconnect the battery, it sets the alarm off, even with the alarm in 'ferry mode.' Does anyone know how I disconnect the alarm so that I can change the battery? Quote
Bender Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Welcome, unfortunately I don't think anyone is going to openly discuss defeating and removing an alarm system on an open forum. Alarm is not a big draw on a battery it's highly unlikely to be causing a battery issue while running, I would start with changing the battery and checking the charging system. Connections etc. Quote
Punts Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Just put up with the alarm noise and change the battery, 2 to 3 minutes at most. Quote
RideWithStyles Posted February 25 Posted February 25 (edited) Agree with bender, that sounds like you have another problem as its not charging the battery properly, triumph are known for the odd rectifier and more common and costly worst case the stator. problem you have the alarm will have its own battery you’ll just need to put up with going off till you change the battery. For the alarm -is it just an alarm or immobiliser aswell? If it triumphs generally most are reasonably plug and play. If you wanted to remove it the only way would be to strip the unit from the loom wire by wire, some will be clipped but some hard wired. not a particular hard job but a time consuming and fiddly job to do right. And pointless if it's a charging issue also notifiable to insurance which will increase when you tell them it's been removed and it's even easier to steal now. 1 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Whats Pointless? i said the charging issue needs addressing and the list of which it could be. the battery needs a change but that alarm will still go off anyway. to remove the alarm if he wanted some peace while working on it would take some time anyway. Insurance or what ever I don’t need to state that but still there no power left in the bike and alarm it’s nick-able all the same and what would you have said to the insurance? Well if it had no battery or power left in it…. Quote
Bender Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Would be easier to attach a temp 12v supply whilst changing the battery rather than stripping out an alarm system to do it quietly. Quote

It was answered, which as I said what would be needed, ie a lot of faffing for not a lot of benefit… the likely hood is very low but maybe the alarm and or its battery is goosed? Does happen and if that is so… Edited February 25 by RideWithStyles Quote
