The Painter Posted yesterday at 19:22 Posted yesterday at 19:22 I have a 2001 Yamaha R1, I took it for it’s MOT today, the bike is started monthly but I hadn’t ridden it for a couple of years, however I couldn’t select gear without it stalling, the clutch was stuck, I couldn’t bump start it so I started it in gear with the clutch out, not the most elegant procedure but it started and the clutch released soon afterwards, it rode ok afterwards but I’m paranoid I could have damaged something, any thoughts would be appreciated. Stu Posted yesterday at 20:40 Posted yesterday at 20:40 Hi and welcome to the forum I wouldn't worry about it if it was knackered it would be slipping I had a gsxr that did the same and the clutch lasted many years after 1 Quote

Stu Posted yesterday at 21:08 Posted yesterday at 21:08 It will just be the metal bits in the pack that's just stuck the the friction plates the same way brake pads do to discs The filter would pic anything up but if you're worried then drop the oil and change it 2 Quote
Hairsy Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago As it's been left long enough for the clutch to seize, there's a good likelihood of condensation having formed inside the engine casing through ambient warming and cooling during the time in storage. I think it would be really wise to warm the bike and change the oil. 2 Quote

Punts Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I know it's to late for this advice. I start my bikes monthly over the winter and run through the gears while warming them up, it gets oil between the clutch plates and around the gears. Easier when you have a center stand. 2 Quote
