i bought a K&N air filter for my zxr400 but cant seem to fit it, the old standard filter comes out no problem but the K&N is more ridged so i cant get it into the air box. anyone know how im supposed to fit it? i dont really want to be cutting away at the plastic :)

i dont want to ask the obvious, but are you sure it is the right filter for your bike?

how do they look for comparison?

Looking at the exploded diagram below and the pictures of both filters, i think that the foam filter goes over the cage (plastic Ribs).

However i suspect this is not the case with the K&N

try it without the cage and see how you get on..

it had two cages one for inside and one outside

the outside one holds the filter in place i think

i would suggest that the foam filter needs the support of the cages 11013

whereas the K&N replaces all items in 11013A, s no cage, in or out and bolts required, this is down to the k&N having no pre-drilled holes unlike the foam filter,

Can you try fitting the K&N without all the gubbins from the foam filter..?

if it works, i'd suggest that it how it is too fit. but i'd keep all the bits in case you fit a foam filter again, or sell the bike on..

was there no instructions with the K&N?

i think the inner cage creates the seal so all air is passed through the filter

does any of the cages fit in or over the K&N ?

im sure you use the outer and have to drill holse in the K&N edge for the bolts :?
