Hey all. I'm interested in finding out peoples experiences with the autocom and midland g7 radio. From what i can gather it works ok but it sounds as though vox doesn't work so well so people end up buying PTT buttons too.

So let me know what you think.

Don't use autocom, just radios for B2B

With head set & mike, I have to use a PTT button

as VOX will not work, VOX only works when used as a hand set,

I think a lot of radios may be the same

Damn it. I was hoping this wouldn't be the case as I either have to buy an expensive Kenwood radio that does work VOX or buy a cheap Midland radio AND PTT cable. :(

These modular systems are alright if the modular bits didn't cost an earth. The bloody cable from autocom unit to radio is going to be about £13.

Don't know about bike to bike, but for music or rider to pillion Autocoms are absolutely brilliant. My GF and I can converse easily at 140mph (in Germany, obviously).

Not sure if this is the sort of thing you're looking for:

I'm getting a set sometime next month (hopefully for my birthday if family decides to be kind!). They include a VOX function as well as PTT. I'm dubious about the 12km claim mind...

Cheers dude, the problem is that a lot of radios that have vox capability don't have that ability when a headset is plugged in. I don't think the G7 radio's can do it and the only one I know of if the Kenwood expensive ones. :( I was hoping someone could disprove me on the Midland G7 front.
