  1. Thanks all, sounds like the best move is to try and get the headers on there. Time to get some good penetrating oil and spend a few months adding some every day I think!
  2. I got some Zerofit thermals delivered today... if they're as good as they're supposed to be hopefully I can get out a bit more in the current weather without being frozen solid!
  3. Granted, I've got a tonne of other jobs before I even think of firing up the CBR1000F I have in my garage: ata. minimum the carbs need more cleaning, the cooling system needs to be refitted and filled (hopefully no leaks), the oil needs to be done and the spark plugs replaced... but if I were to do all that and hook up a temporary fuel source and jump it from a good battery (or a new one)... would it fire without the exhaust headers being attached? I know if it's anything like my other bike it'll need the airbox on to be happy, but I'm not sure if back pressure is required? I ask because there's some studs in there that are going to be a whole level of hard in themselves. Looks like somebody previously tried welding nuts to them and failed to get them out, so they're not going to be easy.
  4. I'm just outside exeter - have already discovered the road up to Minehead is pretty damned good (and then loop back to Barnstaple via the A39), though on the little bike just going Exeter to Moretonhampstead is a good blast too.
  5. Thanks! I just searched for a UK forum to join and yours was the first post that jumped out at me - I feel your pain, it's really not the clearest process when you're doing it yourself, and I couldn't wait to get back on two wheels!
  6. Hi All, New to the forum - grew up in the UK but did a long stint in Australia, now down in Devon near Exeter and thinking I need to buy some warmer gear so I can get out a bit more! Current bikes are a 2016 Triumph Sprint GT for going distance, a 1997 Suzuki Across (4 banger 250) that I brought back from Australia, and a 1992 CBR1000F that I found on marketplace for 500 quid. That's currently in pieces and I'm taking far too long to do anything with it, goal is to at least find out if it'll start sometime in the next couple of months.
  7. Oh something else - I wasn't sure of what to send tax-wise and that corner of the form had me pretty confused. I sent a cheque for my best guess, and the DVLA quickly got in touch with a refund for the extra.
  8. I'm not really up on my KTMs, but seems like that one might be over 10 years old? If so you don't need a certificate of conformity, and you can leave that part of it blank and it makes the form a whole lot easier. I brought a bike in from Australia so went through all this - I found this site to be handy:https://www.spannerrash.com/how-to-fill-in-a-v55-form/ There was a lot of the form that I didn't fill in, yet it was accepted without issue. You don't need numbers for emissions etc. I got insurance based on the VIN with the understanding that I'd provide the insurance company with the number plate once it was registered. I then rode it to the MOT station - you can drive an unregistered vehicle if you're going to a pre-booked MOT and have appropriate insurance. I did the MOT before the registration, again, it can be done on the VIN. I can't remember now if I had to get the MOT first or not, but I'm 99% sure I did on the bike and on the car I brought in, then once the V5s came through I was straight off to get plates made up and I was on the road. It's a good feeling when you get there!
