Knee protection

I'm sure the surgeon will cover this off with you but bear in mind wearing a knee brace over long periods can lead to your knee getting worse not better. The only way your knee will gain stability will be for it to be unsupported and build up the strength on its own via standing/walking and doing the physio exercises they gave you. Use a brace too much and the support muscles atrophy and your knee becomes weaker as it doesn't need to use the muscle to support the joint. -

Just as in a car, wet roads massively increases your braking distances. If it's raining as badly as it has been over the past 2 days I either: 1) Stay inside 2) take it VERY steady

If you're going quickly a turn of the head will get rid of the rain, otherwise a glove finger does the trick. I'm sure you can buy a gadget that fits on your index finger and acts like a windscreen wiper! I did crack the visor a bit if things got steamed up, but otherwise the visor stayed down.

You're making the assumption that braking with your engine causes excessive wear, and I don't think that's true. If you're locking up the wheels through engine braking then you're not doing it properly. youre more likley to wear the clutch when engine braking, than ruin the engine.. if you find youself dragging the clutch as you change down gears, youre doing more harm than good. If you're dragging the clutch when changing down you need to get more rider training, not stop using engine braking.
