  1. Flat: (1 ring) http://www.pjme.co.uk/acatalog/CAGIVA%20MITO%20MITAKA%20CYLINDER%20KIT%20FLAT%20TOP.jpg Dome: (2 ring) http://www.pjme.co.uk/acatalog/CAGIVA%20MITO%20MITAKA%20CYLINDER%20DOME%20TOP.jpg Theres one with two (domed) and 1 (flat) the one i took out of my bike is flat with 1 ring. I've read claims that one Pin has less drag than two, hence slightly increasing RPM at lower revs..?
  2. Ah, great stuff, thought so ! So it has to be 4 stroke right? Confusing since a two stroke bike... What is the reason for this? Cheers. The moving diagram is nice also, thx Edit: I have even more confusion now! I just looked at the Cagiva Planet Manual and it shows the Piston as having 2 Rings?? Both 91 version and 2001 version. Im confused as the piston i took out had only one ring? The two stroke oil is only for mixing with the petrol and it helps lubricate the piston. The rest of the engine, crank, gearbox etc... use four stroke oil. As for piston rings, well as long as you've ordered the right kit for your bike and year, then you'll be able to tell how many! Yeah.. the only thing is I have already ordered the Flat top with 1 ring. As that is what i took out of the bike.. So i figured it goes back in! lol.. But all this two ring etc etc is getting me slightly nervous Hmmm..

  4. Cheers guys! Right.. Just did a few odd bits today.. Spraying discoloured nuts n bolts etc.. lol! Had some time to waste. I was wondering.. I had a look in the repair manual and I couldnt find any information on what to do when replacing the cylinder and piston. What i mean by that is (I can fit it all etc, no problems) just.. Should i dab any special all around the parts before hand? Put afew drops of anything on the con-rod, cylinder etc etc? Im not sure.. Maybe i should just syringe afew drops of 2stroke in there? Ideas guys? Cheers. (Tomorrows the big day!) Edit: Remember i emptied all the oil out? (Not sure which part of the engine it is called..) But it has the dipstick and is at the very bottom... I'm not sure what oil to put back in.. Any ideas? Here is a image i have from the manual. Thanks. http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/2804/oilad7.jpg
  5. Thanks for the replies all What seems to have been the problem is... When i took the Carb out, there was a blockage of the 2 stroke.. so im guessing the piston/cylinder was running dry and heating up like crazy... So the carb is now clean.. and I'm getting a cylinder replacement and piston kit / full gaskets etc for this monday. Now, the only other thing which i am wondering about is.. How does the Con-Rod get lubricated?? I cant see 2 stroke getting down there to lube it all up! Is the con-rod lubricated via the oil i put in the lower part of the engine? Cheers! (Nothing major, just like to know ) P.S - Thanks for the praise of giving it a go myself .. I'm glad i did, I've learnt alot and it hopefully will come out successful and cheaper then taking it to a shop
  6. Little update: drained all the oil out. It looks like a milky oil.. Im assuming this is water getting in, due to the piston being naffed? Anyway.. I put some more oil in.. swished it about and emptied it again. Seems to be nice and clean now. So I'm leaving it like that for now. Just fixed afew things.. sprayed some stuff, repainted the exhaust manifold with hammerite as it was starting to rust slightly. Fixed afew things here and there.. Now I have to wait for Monday when the Piston/Cylinder kit comes!
  7. While im at rebuilding my top end.. Im going to replace all my oil. Now.. What oil does the engine take? Im not sure what the mechanical part is called (lol!) But theres a dip stick to check its level etc... If you look at the picture here, it is the metal box (engine..?) above the exhaust and under the metal frame. I want to drain that. I know how to etc etc.. but what oil to use? Cheers. P.S - Would it be okay to put 10w-40 in and straight back out again? (Just to make sure i get in the nooks and crannies) Or..? Cheers.
  8. Right, i'll ask them. I'll still be here.. and that, really appreciate all the help I got. I'm actually glad i ended up taking the bike apart.. I have learnt alot from it, and feel confident in fixing things myself etc now.. Alot cheaper than paying labour
  9. I can get a Cylinder.. Piston(inc rings) and all the gaskets for £184.99 Is that a good price? -So peed off
  10. Okay, I have finally got into the cylinder and piston. Doesnt look too great. (The pictures are horribly blurred, sorry...) The piston seems to have small scratches on it.. and part of the piston ring is actually slightly melted into the piston body (the piston smooths over it) Now.. The cylinder also has some scratchings. Its hard to tell from the picture, sorry.. What could i do? Get away with a new piston? Or would i need a entire new cylinder and piston? The reason i think it got like this is lack of 2stroke (the carb had a small blockage of the 2stroke, which i cleaned up before i took the head off etc) Could that of been the problem? Argh.. Annoying.. anyways heres the pics: http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/6179/img0003wr2.jpg http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/6674/img0004vm2.jpg http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/5774/img0005ls0.jpg http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/4813/img0006ti7.jpg http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/2348/img0007jw1.jpg
  11. Sorry for the blurred images! I'm no photographer But here is the head opened: http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/599/img0001wi9.jpg http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/7404/img0002fn1.jpg I'll keep working now. Cheers. Also, thanks for the manual.
  12. Right, I'm going to check the Piston Rings today. What should i look for, for deficiency?
  13. Yeah, I feel confident with the entire working/mechanics and set-up of the Carb already. I will make diagrams etc as you said. Ok, I will update this tomorrow with pics. Thanks alot guys! P.S - Experience with bikes = None. Although I've near enough always done all my own work to the car etc. Nothing major-major though.
  14. Righto! Tomorrow im dedicating another full day to it I will take a picture when i manage to get the engine dropped and open the head. (I know i can do this on the bike.. But if it is deeper down, it would be ideal to have the engine atleast dropped) I'll get the pics up as soon as i take them. Again - Really appreciate the help! It's true the biker type are good guys/girls, eh (well, most)
  15. It's a small place near Hornsea called Hatfield. I can take pics, pics of what?
  16. Ok, i decided to buy myself a 'Compression Tester' and see for myself, rather then on some-one's word. I am getting 20PSI Now thats low.. If it should be near 100.. thats about 1 bar! Now with this new information what should i do? (Not garage, im willing to spend ages on this to fix myself, lol!) I checked the head (i think it is..) where there are two gaskets (sit on top of piston area) and the two gaskets seem abit large for their holes.. and fell out, and to get it back in was hard as one end kept popping back out.. (but managed to get it in..) but anyway, should it be this hard to get them in? Is it the wrong size, should i try gasket sealer etc? or any other new idea would be great! Thank alot guys, really helpful P.S - What torque setting should the cylinder head bolts be at about? for a Cagiva Planet 125. Cheers
  17. Yeah, I can understand that it is very tricky over the net A friend tested it with his equipment.. (I dont know the reading, but he said compression was okay) Throttle cable wise.. It seems to be working okay etc.. The idle screw.. i haven't really played with that (It was working before my little ride anyway) But i might have a look at it later. It's annoying as it was fine until 2 days worth of riding! Argh.. I'm not sure if it has a ECU, but it has this: regulator/rectifier http://www.lm-spares.co.uk/acatalog/regrec717835.jpg (Obviously the correct one for my bike though) Hmm.. Could it be electrical? I.E something shorting out on the frame? If so, I'm not sure which wires to look for or how to test etc etc. =/ I have a car.. Its currently being repaired (by myself) so i bought a bike to get me around etc.. and now that doesn't work! lol Joy! 2 Days into owning a motorbike and already getting stressed
  18. Little Update: Compression is fine. Carb taken out, checked, cleaned. Is fine and working okay. (petrol getting to it and through it etc) Float is fine, basically carb = fine! Tried to start it, Spark plug got wet, so i took it out and cleaned, tried again.. nothing.. Just some poof's still... Nothing seized etc etc.. The spark plug is sparking fine also
  19. Compression is fine.. and the piston isn't damaged and moves fine (has been checked by a friend) It backfires as a car does when trying to start it now and then... P.S - I live in the hull area
  20. Well no.. I'll try to explain my best... (sorry) Basically.. Riding alone.. I open the throttle to accelerate out of a bend.. then after 3 seconds on the straight I suddenly wobble and it feels like engine braking... and i had to control it like that to a stop.. and then it wouldnt start up.. thats what happened.
  21. Hi, thanks for the replies. The compression seems fine... and we checked the fuel line.. fuel is going into the carb.. clue tho tho.. and the carb butterfly flap or w.e is opening okay... :/ hmm edit: im also not really sure it 'locked' up.. it was more of a balancing issue and braking with no momentum.. (im fairly new to riding also)
  22. No money to really fix it either.. So cant really think about that :/ argh.
  23. 7k miles and i cant get a bike to a shop that wont move lol I mean i'd probably strip the entire thing down... before going to a shop.. that way i might actually learn something aswell.. lol also.. if it helps.. the first day it wouldn't start unless i'd put it on full choke.
  24. Well, like i said, im not bike mechanic But some one who knows a very 'little' just looked down the hole where the spark plug would be (we removed it) had a look at it turning over.. saying it seemed ok? Not sure about any of it though.. as i know nothing =( The biggest worry is.. how can i find the 'real' problem? what to do? costs? Annoying as i have only owned it for 2 days.. first day riding it, it was fine.. argh.. Thanks for the reply.. Edit: I just had a look myself.. I see something moving up and down (when spar plug is taken out) lol! Also, it is all dry... and the spark plug end looks all burnt? kinda of like charcoal... (Plug was put it new yesterday)
  25. Okay, im not good with bike engines at all.. I was riding along.. doing 60 and then suddenly my bike just stopped.. lost all power.. I had to try to control the stop, skidding down the road (luckily i controlled it well) Quite scary since it was my second time on a motorbike... The bike is a Cagiva Planet 125. It is sparking fine i know that much.. when i try to start it i hear a little 'poof' noise come from the exhaust.. at one point it even backfired (trying to start it) but it just wont have any of it.. I have taken the bottom fairing off etc etc.. and I see about 6 tubes all off.. (I dont know if this many breathers are needed etc..) The tubes i can think off that go nowhere come from.. 1. Radiator bottle 2. Petrol tank (the very left tube) (Looking at the bike form the front, i.e. leaning over handle bars to see) I cant explain what the other tubes come form as i dont know what they are called ... However, the piston seems fine.. but a little dry? - There is enough petrol and 2 stroke. Any advice? Thanks..
