  1. Hi,

My new lid is a Caberg Justissimo, when it arrives. I wouldn't pass on a used lid, I'll keep my old one as a spare. It will be my 3rd Caberg, the first one passed the ultimate test for a lid a few years back, my head was about the only part of me that emerged unscathed. I much prefer a flip-up, saves removing it without appearring ignorant if popping into shop etc., but you're not meant to ride with them open, although some can convert to open face (Justissimo). I'm told that having it open in an off could result in the open part catching something and jerking your head back, damaging the neck. Also in my off if I'd had the front, or even visor, open I'd only have half a face now. Sliding down the road using your face as a brake doesn't win you Mr.Universe contests.

  2. I've just ordered myself new top to toe kit, so all my old stuff's getting dumped. The boots are shot totally, but you can have gloves and textile suit for postage costs, but don't expect much, they're years old and not very waterproof any more, but all the armour is in place, the jacket is nice and warm with removable liner, and it will do to learn on. I'm 5-7 but it would do for up to 5-10 I expect, 42-44 chest and 34-36 waist.

  3. Anyone going on this from the Stockport area? Its 4 weeks tomorrow, I think thats the 5th October. Its a big meet up at Knutsford services then ride en masse to the Memorial Wall , about 90 minutes or so, great ride out. Lat year I was somewhere in the middle and couldn't see the front or back of our group, and there are groups riding in from all over the country, many thousands of bikes altogether.

  4. Assuming hes a commercial seller or trader, he is obliged to refund or replace at his cost, then he can take it up with Oxford. The Sale of Goods Act specifically makes it the sellers responsibility and they are not allowed to pass you on to manufacturers or make you wait. All reasonable extra expenses incurred by you are also refundable, eg postage and even 'phone calls if you have to make more than one to sort this out.

  5. Sounds to me like it could be a fuel supply problem. Try undoing the fuel pipe at the carb end and check the petrol is flowing freely. Some muppet put sugar in my tank once (car) and the symptoms sound similar, the fuel flow being stopped by the crystals forming in the pipe and narrowing it until the flow almost stopped.

  6. I have to look decent and commute to various sites, can be up to 80-90 miles each way. Oversuit does fine, carry my shoes to change into once there.

One important thing, you have yet to buy a bike, so bear in mind if its a decent length commute and you are intending to use the bike in all weathers, get one with a screen for weather protection at least, full fairing better. My stepson had a naked Triumph as his only mode of transport, and laughed at my Deauville, but when he couldn't afford to fix his bike for 6 weeks and borrowed the Deauville through February and March I couldn't get it back, he said on the Triumph he had to dress for travel and change completely at work, on Deauville just change shoes, also on Triumph he had to work the bike in traffic, hundreds of gear changes, gets uncomfortable, but on Deauville it will do 10mph to motorway speeds in 3rd gear, makes life easier.

  7. Mr W , you're right about the double effect of rain on screen and visor, if I get caught in the rain I find it better to lower the screen so I'm looking just over the top, giving me maximum visibility.

Lucifah, I know exactly what you mean about the boots not meeting the trousers. I used to be OK with my SIDI boots, which basically just wore out after 5 years regular use, got a pair of ankle boots instead. Fine with the leathers but in textiles as soon as I put my foot down the boots exit the trousers and dont go back in on their own - I have to lean down and put my trousers back where they belong, can do it on a run but not in town stopping every 2 minutes. Intend to lash out on longer boots soon.

  8. Coming home last night the nob in a big Merc on the inside lane of the roundabout decided he wanted to exit NOW so just went for it, ignoring my presence in the outside lane heading for same exit. I managed to brake and swerve almost into barriers, (thank god for ABS), then 30 yds down road he stopped at pelicon light, so I got alonngside and expressed my opinion in medieval English. Amazing thing next - cage driver behind who'd seen everything got out and added his opinion to my cause in equally forthright language and told me to call the police (total waste of time if I had so I didn't), but really good to have some independent support from a driver. :D

  9. Just back from 170 mile round trip, first big ride of the year. Weather dodgy but rain held off, sun came out in Bala just long enough for us to buy an ice cream, then went back in so we froze while eating it. Lots of bikes on the road today, good to see so many of us still active. We had a nice ride, with a couple of oldies like me, no pressure, cruising speed only. Nice pea and ham soup in the cafe too.

  10. I got the PR3s 2 weeks ago and they feel much better than the Bridgstones that came off, much less tramming, still rubbing the coating off so not stressed them yet. Ride a BMW R1200RT so the issue of hoe close to the edge the tread goes is entirely academic. Special offer of £25 off by application to Michelin on some tyres at the moment.

  11. The idiot in the Audi estate. Regular route to work involves a major roundabout with 5 exits, I can use No 2 or 3, they merge in about a mile or so, so I choose the shortest queue approaching the roundabout, as do many other people. The Audi driver decided to change lanes just in front of me to the right lane, at that point he at least had the grace to flash his hazards at me and wave an apology. I followed him quickly past the standing traffic in the left lane and onto and halfway round the roundabout, when he suddenly stopped, signalled left and angled his car to force his way back into the left lane exit. Having managed to stop before hitting his back end, I was able to get through on the inside, but behind me the horns got going as the other cars stuck behind him were less than impressed. Can't say I blame them really.
