  1. In the past I have only used solid steel ones. I need a new one for my new home. I have seen one in halfords, looks good and has good reviews. My concern that a large portion is plastic and my worry is that it can be smashed and made easy for thiefs, should I be away.

What are people's opinion on them. Need one quick as the bike isn't secure atm

  2. I use rst textiles. Defo keep the water out as do the rst trachtech Evo waterproof boots.

I trust my rst kit on my gsxr 750 though in the wet I am not going to push it.

Those boots are about £120 so can't complain.

Got some myself. Good boot. Just make sure you vet the waterproof version. They are £10 extra. Can't fault them so far. Better than £200 plus smx plus.

  3. Hi guys,

I'm in the market for a new lid and wind noise really bothers me. I ride without plugs as I often have earphones in. I have a lid for the motorway but want one for those Sunday rides. Although in my case its a mon-sun ride. Around town, back roads and so on. I'd also like it 4-5 stars in sharp testing. I gotta admit I'm loving the look of the hjc and agv.

I just wish there was a wind noise testing place like sharp.

  4. Bike- 2001 r1

Need a new one as I must of pulled it, although I though I only pulled the boot. Anyways on eBay they come in different sizes. Which size do I need? Anything else I need?

  5. Put some in the bike in hope it would help it. Now it struggles to start. My dad thinks it's possible I have put too much in and flooded the spark plugs.

    What do you guys think.

  6. What's a good entry level bicycle. I really like the look of boardman, they have some good looking ones for £450 and I can get one for around £250 second hand, they claim its new but you never know.

But if anyone can suggest me a better bike I will look into it. It's just for keeping fit, rides with the kids.

  7. I have removed the casing that holds the oil pump, changed the pump and bolted it back in place. My father in law says it will require sealant once removed. Is this true? Any special sealant?

  8. Got panniers? Fill 'em with bricks, works great for me

No but iv got 2 children I could strap to it instead

I got a big camping style bag I could strap to the back. I also have some wagon straps and when it's done a ground anchor. Tie the straps around the back and pull down.

I know it's only £40 for one, but that could be a nice new pair of gloves or at least a bit towards one. Only need it to take the wheels of a few times a year.

  9. I rode bikes for years before learning to drive a car........it was a very strange experience.......and, at first, my instructor had several heart stopping moments when I forgot that I had a few feet of metalwork to my left side as I aimed for a gap as if I was on my bike.......

Ditto  The thing that annoyed me most about my driving lessons (I had 16) half way through them the cost increased from £1.50 to £1.60. Whilst on my driving lessons my instructor without fail used to smoke a pipe and wouldn't let me have the windows open

Ah 1947 was a good year for you then?

you will do good. Conversion won't be as bad as you think

    I'm starting mine after Xmas.

  10. I will try and clear a few things up. I will also add what vids I can sat.

White smoke is from the exhaust only. Might be condensation or an issue.

It bubbles after my ride and not at the beginning. And yes it's the coolant reservoir tank.sounds like a kettle boiling.

I know because my temp gauge goes right to the red H line.

Bike is a 2001 honda hornet. Been a major pain since I bought it 3 weeks ago.

Changing oil and coolant this weekend.

  11. Is white smoke always connected to head gasket?

Bike is overheating and getting white smoke. Not all the time, just for the first 5 mins or so.

Reservoir is also bubling. Will start with usual checks soon. Oil ect.

Exhaust also has a small leak.

  12. It's a never ending list. Not buying a oldish bike ever again

    Issue 1 solved

    Issue 2 solved

Now I'm getting a spray from near the exhaust. Went out to try the bike and make sure it's fixed. Had my shorts on and felt a spray from the exhaust pipe. Very fine light spray. It was dark but there was liquid on the down pipe.

Had the tap set to on for the last few days and unsure if it should be off. Never had a non fuel injection bike before.

  13. Sourced the problem. As said above it was fuel starvation. Problem is I'm not sure the issue is 100% fixed. It's hard to tell because it's never been my bike.

Pulled off the tank. Checked the pipes and re installed it. Started first time. Problem seems to be the pipe protector but too worried if I remove it the engine will burn the pipe. Bike still seems to chug when idle. Lights have started doing a small flicker but that could be vibration.

Something else that keeps going around in my mind is how this could happen and if I have actually solved the problem. How can a bike work and then not and be a hose. When the bike hasn't moved since purchase.

I will be getting a new set of hoses.

  14. My luck with bikes is getting bad now.

So I got the bike running. Now the rad is smoking and a really loud noise coming from the engine. The smoke is coming from the cap.
