Its within spec
Thanks. That's one good thing at least. Just gotta find why its over heating and leaking oil.

hmm, service manual eh? prepare to have your mind blown. those things go into far too much detail most times - haynes decants it into lego style step by step instructions.
best of luck though - i'm sure you'd have a hoot!
Seems simple enough. Just pics and numbers, instructions on which to remove.

Manual says
Standard 242 psi
Limit 148 psi
Difference 28 psi
Mine was hitting between 185-190. Is this bad?

Listed in the Haynes Manual!
If we knew where you are based, we could (possibly) offer to lend you a complete set iof tools.
Not using Haynes, downloaded the service manual for free
Thanks a lot, my friend is a car mechanic and has offered to lend me anything I need. He just wants to know what I need.

Apart from this one which it took me 30 seconds to find on the internet...
£150 for a full set - might as well do it while you've got it all apart.
Only after the head gasket and not the full set.

Hi all,
Removing my gixer engine this week and need to know what size sockets I will need?
Borrowing them off a private mechanic,so they should be good quality. I'd rather buy a halfords set but money is tight.
-
Got a two brother zx6r exhaust doing nothing, I fancy using it on the gixer until I can get a Leo Vince.
Is there any way to connect it to the original pipes? Its bigger than the original pipes and I was thinking maybe there is an adapter around that could connect them together. Something similar to how piping works where both ends are different size one to fit for he two brother and on to fit the pips.
If not then I will just sell it.

Hi all,
I have a 06/07 gsxr 750, I need a head gasket and is there any alternative's?
By this I mean can I use a 1000 or 600 gasket? Or is there any older model gasket I could get that would fit?
Only gasket I can get for mine on eBay is £170, after the price of a cylinder and £170 for gasket set. I'd be better off buying a second hand engine and stripping for parts.
Thanks

I know many like halfords, which is the cheapest set that is needed to remove an engine? Trying to avoid a massive expense if possible.

Are you 100% this is the right one? Motobatt say its the 9 version, it has 10ah and mine has 11ah but the other one has 14ah.
Thanks

Had an oil leak and took it to jordons and all was fine, 7 days later it was overheating like mad. He advised me that best course of action was a new engine to save money. Rode it around for a fair few months so I think engine will be really damaged now. I think cylinder is damaged but honestly Im clueless, its just what I read on gixer forums.
Gonna test it when the new battery arrives, bike still works just overheats and leaks a bit of oil.

Bike needs a new engine, so found one on eBay and need advise on whether to get it or not.
5k miles without history
No engine number
Has old chassis number from where it came from. Sellers says its from a stolen but recovered bike and it was his spare for racing but was never used.

If you have a faulty head gasket and ride around on it would the bike still be repairable?
Garage a while ago said they thought my head gasket had gone,he said just buy a second hand engine. He also said to ride on this one until one came up cheap. So I did and now I fancy having a go at fixing it myself but is it still repairable or have I done too much damage?

On which end did the rec/reg cables melt?
Generator end means it's sending way too much power up the line. Rec/reg end means that failed but why? Check the generator readouts, makesure they are giving out the right voltage.
Does the smoke stink of burnt plastic? Or could it just be crap from the exhaust headers from you moving it around. I get WD40 on them all the time and it sends a plume of smoke up afterwards. Get the fairing off and switch it on again, damage is done wherever it is so you may as well find it before it totally fails!
It was the generator end.

The saga continues.........
Right, you were right it wasn't just the fuse but the re/reg wires were melted. so i replaced it and tried the new one. bat was dead but used one of those jump lead machines. stared up no problems. I got ill and didn't touch it for 2 weeks.
So today used the same machine and it worked then it cut out, when i used the machine again my front end started smoking.
getting a bat charger and will take off the front plastics, any suggestions?

They are only cheap, I got a laser DMM from Halfords for £10.99
You have a K7, not like you don't have cash to spare if you can afford that
Not really got any just paid for a wedding, new projector, kef r300 and a arcam avr600 so I'm poor at the min.

Fuses get stressed over time.....so it may have just gone due to age........way to tell is to look at the fuse wire.....if it's all blobby around the break and lots of black burn marks, then it's blown in a big way and there'e probably a reason for that.....whereas, if you can just see a small gap in the fuse wire it will have just fatigued due to age......
If the fuse splatted....replace and see if it blows straight away....which would indicate a short-circuit somewhere or very low resistance.......if it doesn't blow straight away.......start the bike and measure the voltage going to the battery......if the Reg/Rec has died it could be pumping too much current at too high voltage into the battery......which will cook the fuse again.....and the battery......
It didn't blow, going to take it for a ride thurs to make sure its ok. i will have another inspection but today i noticed no black marks or burn marks. I hope its not the rec/reg cos that was only changed in april
