  2. I haven't joined in with this one for a while but today I feel I need to. And I want to thank my NOTD NOTD goes to the ar*ehole Audi TT driver this morning who kept slowing right down and as I positioned to overtake he would speed up again. No Idea why, he just thought it was amusing. I could see him laughing in his rear view mirror. After several of these episodes he was driving so slowly I dropped into 1st gear and got toally pissed off with it. I wrenched open the throttle and after about a millisecond (well it felt like it) I was past him and the bike was screaming with me shouting OMFG. I have NEVER opened her up like that in 1 st gear, EVER. I don't know where the revs went but after slowing somewhat they were still way above the usual 7k I ride at I don't know if he was shocked or impressed but he was way behind me now and made absolutely no attempt to chase. God, the exhilaration, the adrenalin, the need for clean underwear ... OK, one of those isn't true.

    oil in exhaust

I can't answer your question, mate, but don't stop asking questions. That's how I learnt so much already. Eighteen months ago I barely knew the front wheel from the back and thanks to everyone on this forum I have rebuild the forks, in the process of upgrading brakes, chain and sprocket set change and many other little problems. If you don't ask, you wont learn.
  4. Don't you think? It's like rain on your weddin' day It's a free ride when you've already paid It's the good advice that you just didn't take And who would've thought, it figures

    Easy disc check?

I am going to be swopping them out for Nissins when I get the time but I have checked them and they don't appear to be sticking. To be honest, it is sounding more like a knocking than a rubbing. Pity I can't find a way of recording it. I have a feeling it's the pads moving around in the calipers. But the thing that is making me doubt this is the fact that it is rythmic. And, it get faster as I ride faster and slower as I ride slower which is indicative of a circular periodic issue.
  6. its a 2 stroke so no valves to stick open............well as far as i know its 2 stroke Ah, didn't realise it was a two-stroke! Another dumb move. lol Apparantly, it is direct injection also so won't have carb either! Am I right?
  7. What about valve sticking/clearance? Could it be that the exhaust valve is not opening to clear the spend exhaust? That would explain pressure build up and pot filling with fuel.

    Easy disc check?

ok so update. Today I used a whole can of brake cleaner to free the bobbins. They were in a bad way - No difference. Still get the rubbing, or more like a knocking sound. Checked pads - they are not sticking. It definitely gets faster as I increase speed so is related to the circlular movement of the wheel and it seems to stop when I apply the front brake. I've checked everything I can think of but found nothing wrong. Any idea what to try next guys.

    Easy disc check?

Just a thought. I have noticed that when the disc is cold, I only hear a slight rubbing. This gets louder and more pronounced as the disc warms up. Does that sound about right?

    Easy disc check?

Wow! ... I though I'd take a quick look not expecting too much and found that every single roller is solid. I can't get it to move a mm with my fingers. Thanks fq-craigus. I guess I know what I'll be doing on my next day off In the meantime is it safe to ride do you think.
  12. Can anyone suggest an easy method to check the brake disc runout? I don't have dial indicators or anything beyond sockets and screwdrivers etc. I ask because on the way home this evening I lifted my visor and rode really slowly to listen to a rubbing sound. When I got home I span the front wheel to hear a rubbing sound but I can't tell if it is the pads or the disc. But it is loud enough to cause concern. Any help would be very much appreciated.
  13. Not all, MrFro. My son is in a grammar school and they use year 7 - year 11 then Sixth Form
  14. Pah! Whippersnapper! I started kindergarten in the 1970s. Things aren't what they used to be when I were a lad, I tell thee. Aye. Pah! Double whippersnapper. I was in secondary school in 1970.
  15. I think the idea was to simplify, XmisterIS. Bring primary and secondary years continuous. In some respects it has but I still think of secondary as 1st year - 5th year then 6th form.
  16. It's the best feeling in the world. We have a six month old too. Thankfully, she came home after a day. Best of luck to you, Mrs Petrolhead and Amelia.
  17. Happy birthday, Stu ... Have a good one, or two ... or ten!

    breathe in

I do agree to the most part however, sometimes its not all about the amount of calories but the type of food, In the extremes if you eat 1000 calories of sugar, do you expect the same outcome if you eat 1000 calories of veg?? Different foods release their energy at different rates which is where you get the GI rating(Glycaemic Index) which in turn will affect the body in different ways. To keep it simple: Eat lots of natural unprocessed foods, try and avoid processed foods. Of course but all things being equal and a degree of reasonableness.

Simple fact is, if you burn off more than you put in you will lose weight. If you burn off less than you put in you will gain weight. The problem is with all of these rediculous charts that say I need 1800kcal to maintain my weight! Actually, this chart and infact I myself, have no idea what calories I need because my BMR is different from all the other 55 yo guys because we are all different in terms of what we do and how fast/slow our metabolic rate is. I do know for sure that even with the level of activity I do, anything more 1200kcal and I gain weight! Simple answer to OP predicament; if you are happy with you size buy a new suit. If not, eat less. lol
  20. Excellent. Cheers, Shorty. I can get a '3' for £50 and most places I have looked a '4' is £60 +. I would like to get a new bike but persuading the missus isn't that easy Optimate 3 on its way I think then.
  21. Ok so what is the difference between the Optimate 3 and the Optimate 4 apart from the extra £'s for the 4? Any reason why I should choose the Optimate 4 over the cheaper model?
  22. Crazy. Bike turned over fine but not a single attempt at a fire. Nothing. Put battery on charge for an hour and it fired up straight away. OMG, bikes are querky! Thanks all I think, hope, problem is solved.
  23. Half a tank Alex ... still there. Should I have done? Don't think so but my bike wont even turn over if the switch is on (stand down and in gear) Will look at this after charging battery. A mate thinks a charge is necessary.
  24. That doesn't seem to be it the only thing that is not connected is the front indicators and headligh.
  25. Ah, hopefully that will be it. I thought with the kill switch on kill the engine didn't even turn over. Thanks mate. Will look at this tomorrow.
