  1. Thanks guys, this is really helpful, it'd be great to see it back on the road, it's only a little bike, more of a toy really, but a fun project all the same
  2. Awesome thanks It's an ongoing project bike. Was fun when it was on the road but has been sat for a couple of years as I had a clutch issue I couldn't resolve, but, thanks to lockdown boredom I finally fixed it Saturday. It's Chinese but I'm slowly swapping out parts as and when they fail (which happens a lot) for Honda equivalents. I'll try and remove the rod assembly this evening after work and give it a good clean.
  3. My first thought was it feels like a spring is missing but I can't see anywhere a spring could attach. When I took the pics just now the rod feels quite slack, should it be? if not I can't see any way to shorten it as it's already at it's maximum shortness (if that makes sense)
  4. Thanks guys, here it is, needs a clean that's for sure http://www.systemben.com/images/kin2.jpg http://www.systemben.com/images/kin1.jpg
  5. Hi, Bit of a novice, I've got a weird problem with my little 50cc, it's a 4 down gearbox (139FMB - C50 Clone), I can go from neutral to 1st no problem however to move in to second I have to raise the selector a bit with my toe and then back down in to 2nd, same for 3rd and 4th, back up to N is no problem. Could this be the selector rod? does it need adjustment? Each gear change requires a little lift before it will change?
  6. Thanks chaps, won't get a chance to look at it until Saturday but it sounds like that could be the problem
  7. Could well be, it's been a while since I fitted it (and had the problem) as I had to replace the tank and re-route the fuel line which took a while. I'll give it a go this weekend. The replacement lever is in fact one of the cheap chinese ebay jobs, kinda hoping that's all it is.
  8. At 45 I don't really give a toss what it look like as long as it gets me across town to aid my elderly mum. Guess I'm not that fussy.
  9. I'll give it a go, if anything I reckon the new lever would be exerting more pull as the lever that was on it when I got it looks suspiciously like a mountain bike brake lever (I know, don't ask)
  10. Yes it does, lever comes up which turns a bar which pushes a plate in with an adjuster screw on it.
  11. No this is the 'chopper' version, 4-stroke with straight 4 gearing like this.... http://mesters-motor-shop.dk/images/19218002_1-p.jpg
  12. Hi, It's a Chinese Kinroad XT50 QT-2 with an FMB139 engine, I know a lot of folk have said bad things about Chinese bikes but to be honest they were being nice, it's far worse than even they make out. At least it keeps me occupied. It was working fine, there has been a lot of work done on it, new tank, fuel lines, bars, indicators, rear fender and clutch and brake levers. At first I thought it was the lever, but taking the clutch cover off I can see the actuator moving in and out as before. I've adjusted it quarter turns from all the way in to all the way out with no luck.
  13. Hi, I have a small 50cc 4 stroke bike with a very annoying clutch problem. The clutch simply won't engage, I can start the bike up pull in the clutch and stick it in 1st at which point I'll be rocketed forward as the clutch isn't doing anything. At first I thought it might be an adjustment issue, I've adjusted it for hours with no luck, stuck clutch plates? I thought, so I opened it up, removed the clutch disassembled the clutch and the plates are fine not stuck at all, reassembled and it still doesn't work. For the life of me I can't figure out why it's not working, the actuator arm is moving and doing it's job, everything is free and moving as it should. Any ideas?
  14. Tried the rubber mallet, tried bouncing it, rocking it, swearing at it. Read that this might work though... Run the engine so it heats up to operating temp Position bike so front wheel is against a wall and sit on it Pull the clutch Whack it in 1st The theory being that with the rear wheel being unable to rotate it will free the clutch, I don't know anything about clutches so I don't know if this would work.
  15. Both wheels o the ground, tried rocking it back and forth in all gears, tred bumpstarting it without the ignition on and then pulling the clutch but no joy.
  16. I'll give that a go, it's been sat sitting for a good 6 months, turned the engine over now and then but never thought about the clutch
  17. Hi, So, after getting the engine going I find the clutch is stuck. I can pull the lever and there is tension, but when I put it in 1st and pull the clutch the gear is still engaged. I have a straight gearbox, neutral, down for 1st, down for 2nd etc. Any tips to free this without having to take the case off would be appreciated.
  18. At no point did I drain the carb bowl, old fuel was sitting in there. Grrrrrrr, lesson learnt.
  19. I am officially an idiot. Old tank was rusty so I removed it an fitted a new tank with new petcock, filter and lines. Fuel flows freely to the carb and I have all the things I need to get it to start and it doesn't. Removed the carb carefully so as to not spill any fuel over myself, again removed the bowl carefully and put to one side without spilling any fuel. cleaned the jets and checked the float height, reassembled carefully and reattached to the bike, still nothing. Charged battery, checked plug, removed air filter, still nothing. No shutoff issues either. It's working now, can you see what I missed?
  20. Thanks for that some really good info there.
  21. Thanks guys, Will be spending most of tomorrow in the man cave with the aim of getting this damn thing going. I'll recheck everything... Fuel Jets Float Height Air Compression Spark Battery Earth Gaskets Valves Leaks Electrical shutoffs I'll also change out the plug and check it's not flooding, hopefully by the end of the day I'll have a video of a running engine.
  22. Plugs are wet. Beginning to think there may be an issue with shutoff connection or an earthing issue. Have ordered a carb rebuild kit just in case but that won't be here for another month
  23. Just tested it and yes I have a spark. Makes no sense to me, I have fuel, air, compression and a spark. The battery is charged and the stand is up (that one caught me out in the past) and the shut off is not on, all lights are off ad it's definitely in neutral. It did start, almost, again very bassy and it turned over of its own accord for a couple of seconds then died as if it's being starved of something?? goodness only knows what.
  24. Checked that and cleaned the connectors inside the switch housing just in case.
