  1. I've used Rain X for a few years and it has never damaged the visor but does need redoing every few weeks to keep it up. Cheapest option is furniture polish even the cheapest stuff will work well. Only downside is you will need to re apply it each time you have been out but not too much of a problem if you do it after cleaning your visor when you get home
  2. Cheers all, will be sitting down this weekend with maps and see what happens
  3. Hi all, I am going to France on the 12th September for a week with a few mates on the bikes and to be honest I have no idea where to go and whats good for bikes. I have a basic route planned but its not set in stone. It is from Calais to Cherbourg, Brest, Nantes, Le Mans and skirt around Paris on the way back up but what to see apart from the war memorials is pretty tough. I have a Satnav and also a paper map for the detail etc, not fussed on detours as we are in no rush. We are staying in hotels each night but want to sample some cracking roads if anyone knows of them and see some stunning towns/ villages etc So my question is does anyone have any knowledge of places to go or routes to take, we are very flexible as it was a "fancy France in September" "yep lets do it" conversation. Orrrrrr does anyone think it would be better to turn left at Calais and head east and blast through a few countries rather than just France? Bikes are CBR600, GSX750 and a 2015 R1 all with paniers and riders who like twisties and sights rather than maximum mileage and speed
  4. I dropped a few stone over the past few years with no exercise. All I did was work on the 60/ 30/ 10 So every meal 60% is protein like chicken, lean meats etc, 30% fats and 10% carbs (peas are great for low carbs) You can leave sugar out of your diet completely as you don't really need it. If you get hungry then things like nuts (plain ones) or chunks of cheese work well. Could do half a stone in 6 weeks on that and then once you have reached your fighting weight then you can play around with your percentages I eat good for 6 days of the week and then if I want have a treat meal and a few beers on a Saturday night lol If you want a short sharp drop to get you by for the wedding then try exante diet 3 weeks at 600 calories then off a week then back on a week. If you are 16+ stone you should drop a stone and a half in that time. I use it just before beach holidays to loose the moobs haha
  5. I get it a couple of times a year and the only think I found works is gargling strong mouth wash 3 times a day and popping cocodamol to take the edge off. I was always lead to believe it's viral so antibiotics wouldn't help but I'm not a doctor so probably wrong lol
  6. I wear ice climbing gloves during winter and cold wet spring days. Waterproof, lovely and warm, short cuff, very grippy palms and not at all bulky. I fully accept that in a crash they will last about 2 seconds of sliding but I'd rather be not distracted by cold wet hands I spent £50 on mine from Black Diamond but you could spend £100 and get leather all singing ones which in a crash would hold up very well.
  7. Mine is just my nick name as I'm a very blunt individual so was branded Cpt Tact lol
  8. I used to buy the in the sale thermal tops and then this Christmas I was bought a Ice Breaker top to take skiing with me and I am now converted! I wore a vest, the base layer and my ski jacket and I was roasting lol to the point I had all the vents open. Next day wore the "sale" thermal and the difference was very noticeable. Got back and tested it on the bike and now I wear a vest, the Ice Breaker base layer and if its not raining my normal summer leather jacket with the liner out and I'm lovely and toasty even when its 0 degrees and under! Now the killer - the base layers are £60+ They also have the antimicrobial treatment so they say you can wear them for two weeks exercising and not need to wash them and I was surprised as I was skiing for 6 days and it still smelled fresh at the end of the week so I find its perfect as most of my other thermal stuff would be smelling by the second wear Legs I just wear the standard thermal long johns and they work fine with the hood Kevlar jeans as they stop pretty much all wind coming through thanks to the lovely thick aramid fibres
  9. I'll nod to everyone bar people who only wear a helmet and no PPE but that's my choice! Did 300miles Saturday and maybe 70% nodded back but when there are large groups I just put up my left hand up rather than nodding otherwise id getting dizzy! Cities I find no one tends to much and people on BMWs, cruisers. I also get shunned by everyone when wearing my Motox lid in the boiling days we have as people look at the lid and then the bike and prob think what a wally rather than OMG this air flow is amazing I'm not boiling in my own sweat lol
  10. I use ice climbing gloves with some merino wool inners when freezing and my hands are all toasty. http://eu.blackdiamondequipment.com/en/ ... s&start=10 Dexterity is excellent, keeps the wind out, waterproof and very grippy palms so even in horrendous weather you don't loose grip. Or for when its seriously seriously cold I wear these, little compromise but can still use the controls without any problems. Found these perfect on a skidoo so thought I'd try them on the bike and very happy. http://www.mountainwarehouse.com/ski/sk ... 11796.aspx
  11. Personally I'm a fan of these (Drift HD) as they are cheap and work brilliantly - Attach them to a USB battery and mine runs for about 12 hours of recording (2.5 32GB cards full) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultra-Compact-L ... sb+battery Camera is easier to adjust for different helmets and angles as the lens can spin around. Audio is ok normally but it does suffer from wind blast so either buy a mic (£16) or tape some microphone form over it and you will be golden up to about 60mph. I use mine on the bike, skiing and paintballing and have battered it for the last 2 years and it's still going very strong. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Drift-Innovatio ... s=drift+hd This is me messing about in the rain back in October - recorded at 1080p 30fps (quality is a little poor as it has been knocked down to upload on to Youtube and is at about 8k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZbH5__ix2I If you have the wedge then get the new Hero4 black as the 4k quality and the FPS on the 1080p is insane, otherwise Drift all the way IMO.
  12. As above pinlock with vents open and rain off or rainx is another one and when going above 30 mph the rain with just bead off. If its being a little stunning then tilt head slightly to the sides and it will go. I feel your pain with wearing glasses but your visor will be fine shut but your glasses will still mist up so keep vents open and it slow traffic crack open the visor a little
  13. Ill be riding through the winter - I personally prefer it in the wet as I find it more fun and you have the roads to yourself and not having to worry about the weekend warrior as his is parked up in the garage for 6 months I'm based near Monmouth and tend to do weekend trips to the west coast and mid Wales. Yesterday I even attempted a trip up to Elan Valley at 8am and had to turn back half way to Builth Wells as my new RST gear leaked like a sieve and rain starting going through the seal on the helmet so had water running down the inside and couldn't see Only part of me that was dry and toastie was my new Alpinestar boots lol
  14. I know not what you're asking directly but I was in the same boat as you I considered grips and also tried a friends bike with them on but without a wind brake the tips of your fingers and back of hand still get a little cold and if you're cruising on motorways the ones from Oxford actually did nothing for me apart from when sat in traffic- also they take a few minutes to warm up. I ended up investing in a new set of ski gloves as I had used these down to about -20 + windchill and was still lovely and toasty on the ski-doo ramping it through the wilderness. Dexterity is still very good from what is a bulky glove and I found my hands didn't get at all sweaty even with all the exertion. £30 is a bargain On the 3rd day it was mindbogglingly cold so had to put on merino wool inners and just wow on how toasty my hands were. Dexterity was still fine too. http://www.mountainwarehouse.com/ski/sk ... x?cl=BLACK
  15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZbH5__ix2I Proper footage from the Drift HD, I run mine off a little USB battery from my pocket as it gives me about 8 hours of recording (5 hours per SD card). External mic is run to the inside of the helmet and tucked in under the cheek padding. Not the best run and do miss a few down changes but hey ho still learning Best £160 with the SD and USB battery I ever spent and also with the adjustable lens I have ever had a problem with angles and mounting points on anything. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultra-Compact-L ... sb+battery p.s. I use a suction mount on the fairing on the bike, been skiing/ snowboarding/ motorcross and also paintballing and its never let me down. It's looking battered but still gives good recordings and I just adjust the picture etc with my limited ability before doing the final render.
  16. Ear Pro EP3 Sonic Defenders about £15 in the UK http://www.surefire.com/ep3-sonic-defenders.html http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUREFIRE-EARP ... 233610fa9f I use these on the bike as I can still hear the engine but removes the top end of the whistles and screams. Very easy to put in your ear and very comfortable and allows you to still have a conversation at the lights and general noise around you I also use them when shooting high caliber rifles and shotguns and my ears are still working as they should so they definitely do a good job of removing the dangerous end of the db scale
  17. Been using one of these for years - perfect even on a motox bike for comfort, nice and bright and 100% waterproof. Carries my laptop (and fits a 17" one too) with charger and other bits and pieces no problem. I have two so when going away for a few days on the bike, valuables go in the one on my back and clothes etc go in the other strapped to the back of the bike. http://www.amazon.co.uk/WATERPROOF-LTR- ... rboard+bag edit: forgot to say has a chest and belly strap so its nice and snug against your back, back padding also very comfortable when in place so you wont really feel it unless your carrying bricks haha
  18. Just putting this out there even though I'm a few days behind: Have you look at the Dell outlet website as you can pickup what would have been a £1000 laptop for about £550 and usually savings are in the region of 40-50% with a full 12 months NBD collect and return warranty. Basically these are laptops/ PC's that have been bought and returned within 14 days under the distance selling rules and Dell just flog them on cheap as they are open box stock. http://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/Inve ... &cs=ukdfh1 I have just purchased a Dell 14 7000 for £550 with touchscreen, SSD boot drive, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD, i7 processor and its bloody quick when booting, I bought this after selling my MacBook Pro as I work as an IT consultant and the Apple ring fencing of software wound me up beyond belief even after installing pure Windows having run Parallels for 8 months. The saving grace of the Mac was the 6 hour battery life even when kicking the crap out of it with programs open, now my windows laptop lasts about 4 hours which for me is fine and the touchscreen with windows 8.1 is pretty nifty for flicking through applications etc. In a nut shell: Apple - titting about writing "blogs", pretending your a designer/ graphic artist/ video editor/ trendy etc etc Windows - Do work on and as above
  19. Most of the guys I know and also myself when riding SM's for fun always wear full leather (usually one pieces) and motox boots, when commuting then the textiles come out. RST do cracking textiles which are waterproof and on ebay for half the price they usually are. RST blade jacket and trousers can both be bought second hand for just over £100 compared to buying some chenwang unbranded stuff off ebay where the jacket and trousers will cost you about £80 new but will leak like a sieve in anything over drizzle and when it gets really cold you will end up looking like a right tubby with all the extra layers you will need. Buy good and if funds are tight second hand until you can save enough for some spankers as there is nothing worse then being cold and wet whilst on a bike as it distracts you and in those conditions you need to be focused 100% on what is going on around you
  20. I purchased 2 of the Furgygan D30 spine protectors, Level 2 for the RST one piece that covers down to my arse and to my shoulder blades and one level 1 for my RST jacket which just covers the central spine and about 4 inches either side. I bought them because the one that came standard in my Furygan jacket really won me over as I never new it was there when riding. The D30 stuff I find very very comfortable as its flexible until an impact and then it goes hard to absorb and dissipate the impact shock. I wont personally ride without a back protector but it was drummed in to me when riding motox and after hitting a few trees/ stones at about 30 mph it makes a massive difference with being able to walk away with some bruising and some soreness rather than carried away.
  21. I prefer goggles, don't know why just do. I have glases so wear the Oakley L frames which are a lot wider and so give much better visibility and making life savers easier. I buy a new lens every year and the stupid thing is it costs £9 posted direct from Oakley USA Ps I use the slightly tinted lens for most of the year and also the goggle work great whilst skiing lol
  22. ProXPN is a great service and only a few ££ a month but works on any device and gives you access to servers all around the world without fear of spam or crap getting on to your device/ PC/ laptop etc. Best thing is if you have Netflix you can access all of the USA Netflix site
  23. Lad who works for us and to this day (14 months on) still maintains that a client wrote her name down as Dobbie and not Debbie. When we questioned him about this he was adamant that this is what she said and even wrote it down on a job sheet, the penny didn't even drop when we explained that for 47 years she was called Debbie and for one day, one day only she decided to call herself Dobbie just for him.... We then realised that if he thinks she is called Dobbie then the sarcasm is lost on him!
  24. I forgot to say, any bars that you change to will not have a recess hole for the little lug on the inside of the clutch and throttle housing so you have two options. 1. Drill the bars (its fine but not a personal favorite as you're then stuck in that position) 2. File it down slightly so it still grips but no need for a hole I'd go for option 2 but it was just to make you aware as I spent 5 minutes wondering why the housing wasn't tightening up properly haha
