  1. My speedo reads in miles an hour Ah! that might explain it, inches are a fraction of mile and the distance for one revolution i.e. the circumference would also be a proportion of a mile but then the profile which on a 160/60 is 60% of 160mm blows that theory out of the water.

  3. That is my point, though. Wheels are sized in inches and obviously a tyre has to say what size wheel it fits, the 17. But the tyre size itself, as in the profile of the particular tyre for a 17" rim, is only metric: 160mm, and 60% of 160mm. OK so why are the rims in inches when everything else on the bike is metric
  4. Roughly accurate, at least. It is only 1000ml of pure water at 3.98°C at the mean atmospheric pressure at the latitude of Paris that is exactly 1000mm³, of course. Tyre sizes are not a mixture of metric and imperial, though, are they? Wheel sizes are in inches, so the tyre sizes obviously have to reference this, but as far as I know the tyre itself is then sized in either in one system or the other. Certainly for my bike I only know of two different formats for the tyre sizes, one in inches and the other in millimetres. Changing systems for something like wheel sizes though would mean starting over from scratch. All new wheels would be incompatible with old ones, which means you cannot simply reuse old vehicle designs with a few upgraded components, and everything else that depends on them would need changing. So when you have an established standard like this, changing to a different system simple for the sake of the unit is never worth the hassle and cost. With something like tyres though there will be slight differences between one brand and another of the same size that you can easily just convert the measurement unit and round it off as they seemingly do not require such accuracy. They are a mixture, 160/60 R17 is 160mm width 60% of 160mm is the profile and R17 is a rim diameter of 17", so a mixture
  5. They're black and round and stop you riding around on the rims They way my tyres operate I be safer on the rims LOL!
  6. No, nobody seems to know, so we will just have to live with it.
  7. although you can get 6 1/2ltrs in them Not the ones I have on the bike crash bars, they only hold 2.5 litrs
  8. although you can get 6 1/2ltrs in them Not the ones I have on the bike crash bars, they only hold 2.5 galls
  9. I have joined my local Blood Bikes, great bunch of fellows, we meet once a month and some of us have ride outs, I am not a rider for them yet, have to get either my IAM or ERS, then I will be assessed on one of the Blood Bikes and if I pass that, will be able to ride for them. We also have a couple of local clubs who meet on a Thursday Night, go to one which meets between 5 & 8, go there for tea, then the other one which is Conwy Club ( Home of the Dragon Rally ) they met between 8 & 10 PM go there on way back
  10. My TR gets quite a lot of interest and people do acknowledge me now, one guy went the next day and bought one after seeing mine, but I have never seen him since, if I should come across him will invite him to meet
  11. Will see if anybody from the club down here wants a ride out.
  12. Are we throwing the meet up open to anyone who wants to join us anybody who does can then see how good the TR's really are built in a KTM owned factory.
  13. Might be 3 WK 650TR's, if the guy from Liverpool joins us as he said he would, I will meet up with him in Chester as for the weather I have just done the Ride to wall in 12 Hrs of pouring rain, the TR did have 1 minor fault for around 5 minutes on way back, the main beam cam on in a torrential downpour, so I will be there even if on my own.
  14. Hi Fred, are you still up for the ride to the Raven in November with linuxyeti, and we will probably have a rider from Liverpool joining us.
  15. There are a few 650TR owners who are in touch with each other and the numbers are growing, we have had 2 ride outs and another to the Raven Cafe coming up in November, I have done 5000 on mine since April without any problems except for me dropping it and then the Continental Tyre has squared off, Type specialist recommends replacing the Road Attack 2 with the Road Attack 2 EVO Spare parts to replace those damage after the drop i.e. The Mirror cover and the crash bar cover £19.99 each + VAT ready painted, Pannier cover £49.95 + VAT ready Painted. I have replaced a lot of the bolts with Stainless steal ones if I have to remove them, such as Tank bolts, Seat lock, fairing mounting Bolts, and you do need to have a few replace clips for the self tapping screws if you remove the fairing
  16. Why are Tyre sizes a mixture of Inches and millimetres
  17. I will stick to standard size, they do a Pilot Road 4 in the correct size.
  18. Most of the sizing charts recommend a minimum of 5.25 rim width, so I do not think I will risk it, some have suggested 170/60 17 as a better bet that the 160 again I am not sure what to believe.
  19. This is why I am asking the Question, I tend to stick with recommended size and there is no GT in the size I need, his bike is the 650TR-G model, bigger and heavier, it is guy who has just ridden to the UK and back to China on it and he had that tyre fitted when he hit the Twisties of Europe, as like mine his Continental Road Attack 2 had squared off
  20. I have a Chinese WK650TR and the back tyre has gone square even though there is loads of life left in it, I am told by another 650TR rider that I should fit a Michelin Pilot Road 4 GT ( and only the GT ), he has also said I should fit a 180/55 ZR17 instead of a 160/60 R17, is this safe to do and is it legal.
  21. I had the rear wheel go from under me whilst approaching a roundabout at low speed a few weeks back, I am now thinking it was a combination damp on the bald patches of the copy of shell grip surface, the bald patches where the grit has worn away from epoxy and a crap continental back tyre, as someone pointed out today that it has squared off although there is plenty of tread depth, it does appear to be a bit flat. My mate says I should get a Back Tyre with a dual compound, I have never heard of dual compound tyres my back tyre is a 160/60 R17 69H What do others use.
  22. On Saturday did the Ride to the Wall with those in the picture, it was 12hrs of soaking rain, I ruined 2 pairs of gloves and my boots still have not dried out but it was worth it there a least 6500 bikers registered and more unregistered that attended
  23. A few pics and note the one of the bond bugs, there were all sorts of old 3 wheelers there, bubble cars, Messerschmitt's and many others.
