  1. What with the weather as it is now (and for the future too) , I want to get some Summer Boots.  I don't like the old-school look, or the track-day look - just something that looks a bit normal when walking about, and decent ventilation.

I quite like the look of these (the highest rated on SportsBikeShop) but they haven't got my size in stock (42) -Richa Slick Waterproof Boots - Black

Has anyone got any recommendations.  Googling and looking on Youtube has totally put me in a spin..

  2. So I cable-tied my phone to my handlebars and tested the accuracy of the speedo against my phone (using Google Maps speed).

The results indicate that the bike speedo is 9-12% above the actual speed (assuming the phone is accurate).

Thanks for your help guys :)

Changed the gearing on the bike? that will affect it

You could probably find an app for your phone that would track your speed and log it so you could easily set your speed at say 80 on the motorway for a set distance then stop at services and check the app

I haven't changed any gearing - the bike is factory standard.

I'll give that a go - I do use Geo Tracker and think that shows maximum speed over a trip.. 👍

Can you check it against a sat nav?

I was on the motorway yesterday doing an indicated 75mph which I know is really just under 70. I was the slowest thing on the road. Motorway speed limits are ignored by most people.

Umm - not really.  I don't have a phone holder on the bike (for GPS I use earphones with my phone in my pocket).

I suppose I could test it with the Mrs - ask/tell her to drive at 70mph and see what my speedo indicates.  Don't know if I'll get round to that though.

I just wondered if it's common for speedo's to become inaccurate over time.  I'm not quite sure how they work - if they're linked to the wheel, or the engine/gearing  mechanism.

  5. Recently, I took the bike from the Midlands to Wales, and the Mrs took the car.  A few times I was behind her and she seemed to be going 85/90 mph.  But, later she said she didn't got over 75 (she is a know liar though :)).

This led me to think that my speedo is inaccurate.  Sometimes on the motorway I could be doing 90mph and a car flies past me - possibly 20/30mph more than me.

The bike had the MOT this morning, and I asked about the speedo.  They said the official line is it can be +/- 10% plus 6.25mph, and they don't know any way of checking that my speedo is way off.

Has anyone else had similar issues and got them sorted?

  6. I haven't checked the tyre pressures, and have had the bike nearly 2 years now  so thought I'd better do it now...

I read that they're displayed on the swing arm, below is a pic of the swingarm. Could someone tell me the correct figures I should be using at a service station air pump based on the pic below?

    Thanks

  7. Hi there!

How are you getting on with the bike? Do you love it?

I am just considering getting one of these and I am torn between this one and the CBR500R.. any good or bad points you would be able to share? How’s the consumption?

I have a CBR 125 at the moment and had passed my license at the beginning of November :)

I've had my 650F just over a year now. I too came from a 125. I was toying with a CBR500R but the salesman advised having more power with the 650F so that's what I went with.

I have loved having and riding it but I do get bored quite quickly (this could be most riders..?), and will probably get something else next year.

    Good Points

    * I feel a very safe bike to ride, as it has ABS

    * Quite economical, ~50mpg

    * Seems very reliable - no issues at all

    * Pretty fast - 0-60 3.5 secs, I've done 130mph on it (once!)

    * The fairing does a good job of keeping wind resistance down

    Bad Points

    * Doesn't have a gear indicator. As it's quite high revving it can be difficult to know which gear you're in

    * Not comfortable for > 3-4 hours. It is a sporty bike though, so to be expected

    * High revs for proper acceleration (my mate has a KTM and the power band is much lower)

Overall, I would say go for it. It's only as I'm thinking of going longer distances, and I want a bigger engine, I'm thinking of changing it.

Well done on passing your test BTW :)

  8. Thanks for your help guys - I've ordered this from Amazon for £26

BikeTek Rear Motorcycle Paddock Stand Series 3 Red Heavy Duty

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/BikeTek-Motorcycle-Paddock-Stand-Heavy/dp/B001AH8BJE

Well, after me and my mate tried using this and nearly dropped the bike several times I've come to my senses, returned it and have ordered the ABBA stand which is £100 for my Honda 650F.

Risking damaging my £7K bike for the sake of £80 seems just plain stupid...

    :D :D

  9. Yes thanks guys - looks like RAM mounts are the way to go. The fork stem looks like the ideal place.

A better pic of the handlebars:

This looks good but I was hoping to get the holder nearer to the bike rather than sticking up with a large arm

So, I'm looking at getting the RAM Mount,

I can't find a universal holder (for my Samsung S7) on the website which goes directly above the ball.

I was hoping to find something with a very short or no arm?

  10. Thanks for the info about the Abba Stand but as I'll only be using this to clean the chain as I always get my bike serviced at the dealer, a basic stand would do me fine.

I'm still not sure how the stand would lift my bike. This is a photo of the rear bolt - does the bobbin replace this?

  11. I've had my CBR650F from new and it's about 9 months old. It's still pretty low mileage - approx 2500, and it's the first time I've cleaned the chain (my bad I now..). It was in a pretty confined space in my back garden and I could get to the whole chain by moving the bike. I want to get a rear stand lift and saw this on Amazon

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KRDNYQW

It says I need bobbins too - which I hadn't heard of bedfore. I found some on Amazon as well

Has anyone got experience of using these with a 650F or are they standard sizes? And do I definitely need a bobbin?

I haven't checked my bike as I'm in work today.

    Thankls

  12. I'm on the lookout for a camera. It's not going to be used for vlogging or anything like that - just so as a reminder for me of good routes and scenes (I'm into photography too) - and of course in case of an accident. Audio's not important but a nice to have.

Ideally I'd like it on my helmet but am a bit unsure of whether I'd be able to fit it or not, so am thinking of getting a handlebar mount.

I'm looking at spending around £100-£150 on it - a link to an online item which someone has got would be great.
