Rather than get halfway through and end up with a non-working bike, I could bring it to the rally to try and fit in front of a supportive and increasingly drunk audience! Happy to have a go, but if there are more experienced hands, erm, on hand, that would be very reassuring!

I've read all the instructions, which are fairly clear for someone with no idea what they're doing, and the chap I've been emailing at Scottoiler has sent a few more helpful details too. It's mainly the fettling with the vacuum tube which concerns me - is it simply a case of pulling it off, adding the adapter they're sending me for the Scottoiler tubing, and pushing it back into place? Seems the oil pipes can just be fed along the route of the rear brake line.

A friend is selling me a spare, new V System scottoiler, which I'm looking to fit/get fitted before going touring in 3 weeks. I need a couple of adaptors for the Tiger Sport, which the excellent people at Scottoiler are sending me for free! A local garage has said they'll fit it for £50, which I'm pretty happy with, but is this something sufficiently simple that I should just be doing it myself? I sent a photo of the engine from the right hand side, which the chap at Scottoiler annotated to show where to attach the thingy, but it looks pretty fiddly, and if it needs the tank lifting then I'm definitely not interested! In particular I'm concerned about not reattaching every properly, and setting off a nuclear reaction (or causing some other issue) when next riding. For £50 to have it done by someone I trust, I'm pretty happy, but thought I'd see what others' experiences have been with fitting them.

One that fits well! Afraid I can't give any advice on specific gloves/brands other than my own limited experience. I have a pair of medium-weight IXS goretex gloves, and really thin mesh Richa summer ones (but with leather palms and a big plastic knuckle guard too). My hands don't really get too cold, so those two pairs are just about good for everything between them, although I'm tending to take both out at the moment and swap if I need to. However it took me ages to find some which fitted comfortably, and I tried on loads. Sounds like you probably want a pair of thinnish leather gloves, but there's no one glove which covers all eventualities. Welcome to the world of needing multiples of everything!

I pretty much needed to be led to the answer about the location of the rear brake reservoir, which wasn't readily visible on my school's bike, and had never previously been discussed! Still passed with no minors though. Just ask the instructor to run through them first, which they should do anyway. Being relaxed about the actual riding is a great state of mind to go into the test with though.

My bike has to live outside, so I got a big chain, lock, and ground anchor set into the wall of the house, along with a dark cover. No sheds were really suitable for where my bike has to live, so can't help on that front I'm afraid.

Well that's settled it - definitely going to Scotland on the bike next summer.

I did this today. I'm now buying a centre stand. You're not wrong! And luckily I came home today to find a letter from HMRC saying I over-paid on tax last year, with the rebate bring sufficient to get a centre stand and take Mrs Lat out for a birthday meal next month!

Loan of mine, TomTom Urban Rider v3, not like I'll be climbing back on a motorbike this year with my injury, so someone may as well get the use of it. And much appreciated it is too. Worked well on Sunday - no audio, but got us home very nicely. Hoping to sort out the charging port this weekend too. Will check out ITN converter - ta.

Apparently most manufacturers use brass plugs, which expand quicker than the casing and therefore don't budge, but Triumph are unusual in using threaded ones. They took a photo to show me - both plugs were below/in front of the front sprocket. Don't have it to share, and can't tell you any more than that!

But there's now no way to import that to Tyre within the free version to get an ITN file onto the sat nav. Motogoloco mapping interface IS google maps, so works in exactly the same way, but then allows you to export your route direct to ITN. Do it in google maps and you'll have to do it twice if you want to get that route on the sat nav. Not sure if it's my computer then, but I found Motogoloco very temperamental about whether it would pan the map or drag the route around, which irritated me so I just switched back to what I know! I knew I'd have to do it twice, but for the purposes of messing around I'm fine with that.
