  1. How about tea in the House of Lords with the Archbishop of Canterbury. (I pinched his after dinner mint.) Is that a secret church term thing for sexuall misconduct Nope. It was more a case of there's a job you'd be right for.....End of the story was I pocketed the official House of Lords after dinner mints to give to our kids, but all they did was rip the wrapper off and scoff the chocolate....and I didn't want the job anyway. Mind you the same trip I got to have dinner with Patrick Head so it wasn't a total loss. (Sadly he didn't offer me a job.)
  2. I see your Princess Anne and raise you an Alan Titchmarsh. I met him once and was properly miffed 'cos I'd been expecting Thora Hird. How about tea in the House of Lords with the Archbishop of Canterbury. (I pinched his after dinner mint.)
  3. Please tell me that's true and not a headline from the Sunday Sport. We need to hear more! Absolutely true. She came to open a new marine lake where I used to sail and canoe. On the big day I was late getting to where the ceremony took place and by the time I got there boats had filled the entire wall alongside the podium. Then I spotted a fence about 50 yards out which no one had latched onto so I paddled out there and had a great view. As it got nearer to the opening ceremony I noticed lots of people waving at me so being a friendly sort of guy I just waved back. The waving got more active but by then Princess Anne had arrived so I just wanted to watch. She made a speech which I was too far away to hear and then pressed a button to declare the new lake open. At that moment I suddenly noticed the fence I was holding onto was enclosing a large round pipe, about 2 feet diameter, and the fence was shaking. It turned out that this was a massive water jet to mark the formal opening and I'd parked myself right under it. On the TV news that night you just saw a huge plume of water shooting into the air, and then descending into my canoe which gracefully sank beneath the waves. I didn't half take some stick over it on school the next day.
  4. Princess Anne sank my canoe.
  5. Battery voltage at rest doesn't tell you the whole story. Check it under load in case the voltage is collapsing. A hot engine has higher compression so a failing battery might be the cause. Or, as you say, a weak starter. But worth double checking the battery first.
  6. Hmmm - a god would have know there was a car coming the other way - so I have my doubts about your divine status. I think you're just very very lucky.
  7. If you use in a car that has an engine management system which can make use of the higher octane then you will see an improvement in both performance and mpg. I never use it in the bikes but the cars do benefit, so it's not just a marketing gimmick. You just need to use it appropriately. I reckon the extra mpg pays for the additional cost of the fuel - but in terms of finance it's pretty neutral. The only real benefit is the slightly better performance.
  8. 'Tis said those are the souls of long lost bikers - trapped between worlds, seeking excitement, they feed on the spikiest thistles they can find. It's not much by way of thrills but it beats being reincarnated as a Mayfly.
  9. It's frustrating but they can't open things to check before posting. I've always found them to be very good but if possible I try to buy local because it's easier to deal with any problems that way. The camera is pretty much the same price wherever you buy it so for something like that I'd try to buy over the counter. Since J&S is literally just down the road I suppose it's a bit easier than for most. I go past it most times I go out.
  10. No point using super unleaded as your bike doesn't have an engine management system that will make any difference. What you can do is to make sure you use decent branded petrol routinely. All petrol is the same base so supermarket fuel is the same as the big brands. The only difference is additives and the branded fuels do contain more detergents. So if you make sure you use branded fuel from time to time that's as good as it gets.
  11. I had a bike on which one mirror was always vibrating loose no matter how much I tightened it. Keep an eye on it and if it works loose again use some threadlock on it.
  12. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Senner-protection-aluminium-motorcycling-especially/dp/B077NB9PJ3 £22 for ear protection.....feck me Worth every penny.
  13. Can you post a link to them if they are available online https://www.amazon.co.uk/Senner-protection-aluminium-motorcycling-especially/dp/B077NB9PJ3
  14. I use Senner MotoPro silicone earplugs. They cut out wind noise but somehow still allow you to hear traffic and things going on around you. Also very comfy
  15. Let us know how you get on with it. I am looking at buying one (I would have bought one this month but the tax has just arrived )
  16. I used to watch that for hours hoping something would come on. Mind you it was in black and white then and the TV rarely lasted a month without a valve blowing.
  17. Most clutches have the biting point when the lever is towards fully out, it means you get control of the clutch without having to fully pull back the lever. If the reach is uncomfortable look at an adjustable lever, they make life more comfortable.
  18. But its not actually speeding that kills its stopping suddenly and unexpectedly from whatever speed it was you were doing that kills The same is true with regards to jumping off tall buildings. It's perfectly safe. It's hitting the ground that's the problem.
  19. there's confidence for you They were very good photos ! Plus I struck up a rapport with the seller by text and everything he said had a ring of complete honesty and authenticity . Long story short, it was an eBay no sale because the reserve price was too high hence no bids .I contacted the seller who accepted the reserve price. He offered to hold it for me for about six weeks all based on trust until I scraped together the money . All I had to do was hear it start and that was it . Top bloke in a world full of scammers and time wasters . That reminds me, when I sold my last bike the guy didn't even want to see it. I sent him detailed photos and we talked over the phone, then he sent a man in a van to collect it. But you can't do the same with the dealer in this case.
  20. If you filter at a reasonable speed and courtesy most people will be fine. It's the bikers who filter too fast, illegally and aggressively who make motorists likely to get irate. Always acknowledge someone who makes space for you.
  21. It's not the crank breather is it? Some have a small tank to collect crud that gets drained at service intervals.
  22. Glad to see you're going green. Looks lovely!
  23. Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional.
  24. The point about tailgating is well made. I'm not suggesting the OP was but when km driving the car it's amazing how many bikes sit right on your tail waiting for a gap to overtake. I've done it myself. But I do find overtaking is quicker and safer from further back and it doesn't wind motorists up.
